Firmware update deleted my 6220 contacts

Hey,

I recently updated my 6220 firmware through Nokia Software Updater (from 3.0 to 4.13) and it has deleted all my contacts and inbox, but left my images and music intact.

Is there any way I can retrieve the contacts and/or messages?

Thanks

Can you not restore from a backup?  Or did you ignore the warning that the updater gives about backing up before updating?

Re: Firmware update deleted my 6220 contacts

Having just had my phone repaired and returned, I expected it to have lost all it's contacts etc. and it had.

I did however, perform a backup (several times) using pc suite, as I had 889 contacts.

Now that I have the phone back, I cannot load any more contacts onto it from any backup file other than the 250 already on the sim.

I have tried changing the memory reader so that it reads from 'several memories' and have tried various backup files.

The phone will load text messages and the calendar, in fact everything except the contacts!

It's a phone and the contacts are the only thing I really need.

Any ideas? All help welcome.

Re: Firmware update deleted my 6220 contacts

I have had the same problem with my 6220C. I did a full back up before installing the firm ware 4.13 but when I try to do a restore from this back up I don't get any contacts. Everything else is transferred over, messages, settings, images etc. but not the contacts. I also tried to copy over the contacts from my original install when I got the phone but again no contacts are transferred. Any clues anyone?

The backups (.nbu files) are on the local drive

C:\Documents and Settings\admin\Application Data\Nokia\ContentCopier

6220c-1

Firmware - backed up when on 3.X, now updated to 4.13

Nokia PC Suite v7.0.9.2

Nokia contenet copier v4.0

also today tried it with Ovi Suite (same sh*t, different jacket)

All attempts at restoring contacts have appeared to have sucessfully worked but when the phone restarts im left with 3 customer service numbers only.

I know the backup worked because opening the .nbu file with notepad shows all my contacts are there.......

boooya!

Solved it,

if you type

contacts .nbu

into

http://www.google.co.uk

the 5th entry is

http://v8villager.blogspot.com/2008/01/n95-nokia-restoring-contacts-from-nbu.html

giving you same issue with an n95 and this link

http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/software/Nokia_Contact_Transfer.exe

which works a treat ;-)

jfgi - so true
