Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

i subscribe to all that was said above

i have a N97 sim free uk model, and it's really frustrating to check almost every day for firmware updates and find out the same thing every day: someone at nokia uk doesn't care about it's customers who paid extra for an unlocked model.

it's been 3 weeks since the v12 release and it still didn't find it's way to sim-free uk models.

not that i want extra functionality for what i paid. i just want it to work as it should.

and for the guys that want beta releases of firmwares: you already have it, your phone shipped with one. (alpha maybe?)

nokia, would you like us to beg?

next time i'll think twice before purchasing your "flagship" phone.

I am also supporting this tread, that's all I am saying because my complaints are the same as everybody else's.

Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

Completely supporting this petition, from the perspective of someone who's on a contracted phone, I can't get these updates until the unlocked firmware versions reach the UK for the carriers to deal with.

I'll echo the sentiments of previous posters, if the delay to us receiving 1.2 is so that everyone gets version 2.0 at the same time (by that I mean US, UK - locked and unlocked handsets) I have no problems with it, in fact I support it, version 1.1 is useable at least. But if we're forced to wait an unacceptable amount of time for the version 2.0 that looks to solve the majority of problems we're encountering, I will be one of the many that will be formally complaining.

Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

count me in.  as phones get more and more advanced it's important that firmware gets updated on a regular basis.  had this prob with n73 and now n78 on o2 network.  started off following proper channels, emails to o2 support and the like but after they took no notice and didn't take it seriously i just reflashed phones with generic firmware.

it's obvious that all the big networks are just interested in hooking you on a contract and then forgetting about you and any aftersales support.

but i have to say that nokia has to take some of the blame due to poor testing of handsets before initial release.  The n73 had severe bluetooth probs and the n78 was more buggy than a tramps mattress.  my next phone may not be a nokia, and that's after 10 years of loyalty to the brand.

Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

Wanted to add my name to this list.   I've a N97 branded by the '3' network.

To add insult to injury the 'My Nokia' service yesterday sent me a sms to encourage me to keep my phone software updated.  Well Nokia, I'd love to, if you'd just release it for the UK market.

Thanks

Iain.

Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

I got this from Nokia

Dear Paul,

Thank you for contacting Nokia Care.

Please be advised that firmware for Nokia phones are region and network-specific. This applies to the availability of firmware updates as well. Firmware updates for particular variants of Nokia phones would only be released via Nokia Software Updater once they are approved by the respective network providers. At present, it is unconfirmed as to when an update would be available for the variant of your Nokia N97.

It is best to visit Nokia’s website below periodically to check for an update:

I hope this helps clarify your enquiry.

Should you require further assistance, please feel free to email me again.

Have a nice day!

Keep your phone software up-to-date by using the Nokia Software Updater. For more details, visit Nokia Support and Software at http://www.nokia.co.uk/support or .nokia.ie/support. You can also go online to find user guides, troubleshooting support and other services to help you use your Nokia product.

The last bit makes me laugh!!!

Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

In all fairness, the footer reminding users about NSU is put there automatically by the system used by Nokia Care, I'm sure the person sending the mail would have removed it if he/she was able to do so! :smileywink:

True, shame the actual email was a scripted reply that helps no one, but I understand why that is the case.

So I take it by that then, that the person replying to me email is not capable of removing the text then?

All they had to do is to untick the box for "attach signatuer".

But it still made me laugh:smileyvery-happy:

They don't use a normal mail client, it's done through a centralised call/mail handling software, individual users are not able to edit signatures.
