Good news?

Terrible news for 5800.

From the version (31.1.xxxx) seems only small bug fixes.

It will continue to have that cripled homescreen and won't kinnetic scrolling, like n"big fail"97.

How do you know that, have you seen a changelog or got the FW somehow? A little proof wouldn't go amiss.

Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

He's just guessing, because there's not much change from 31.0.xxx to 31.1.xxx (at least in version's number). All we have to do now is wait and hope (keep your finger crossed :smileyvery-happy:)

Gerardos90 understood me.

I've "seen" too many firmwares over the years; you'll end up getting some experience.

Of course i could be wrong.

But i wasn't last time :smileytongue:

Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

No offence then, but don't state it's only bugfixes if you don't know. Some of us have also seen many FW over the years, but won't state what it will or won't contain.

Lets just wait and see until either someone gets it, or a changelog is released.

If the UK is at the top of the list, perhaps this could mean a nice change for the future.

Hi jauhis, can you say anything about new firmware PR311 of 5800 ?

All I want to know is will it give us kinetic scrolling or not ? I hate to use scroll bar

and will it give us the auto rotate QWERTY keyboard ?

Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

Many thanks for this posting.

You have my support 10000%. As a loyal nokia user for the past 13 years, and noone couldve convinced me otherwise until now, at the moment feel like selling my 2xn73, 2xn95, plus 1xn86 nokia fones, inspired by my latest acquisition, the n86 and going to sony ericsson as i dont seem to hear thier users complaining about software issues.

in 2 weeks ive had it replaced. i can surf more than 3 pages on the internet. ive missed out on party pictures as the camera wouldnt function. i cant access the ovi store. texts are sent in mms, plus the music player malfunctions. bear in mind ive had this replacement for 3 days......and yep there are no software updates available. there is mention on an update being released next week but will i havbe to jump on a plane to japan to get it????

cant believe ive been let down by nokia like this. i used to swear by my phones regardless of the fact it freezes once in a while. i also had an excuse for that too. now im feeling exceedingly ify.

nokia please help our drive for equality and also help me!!!

Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

i have a N85, the v 20 update was apparently in may, not long after i bought my phone, the v 30 was in august i think and an update to the v 30 was released days ago, however even though my phone is not commited to a network i am still only able to download the v11 , which i already have. this may be a problem with NSU & OTA systems just for my phone but then again it might not be - any1 else with a N85 in uk who has managed to get newer software, or is in my same predicament?

Still waiting for v12 on my UK sim free N97.

SW Updater on the phone told me again tonight its available "via PC" ( I missed the one withdrawn a couple of weeks ago) The web site agreed that V12 is available for my code - 0585162. but NSU (updated to v1,08)  and FOTA still thinks v11 is current for my phone. Has anybody in same situation been able to get v12?

Ive copied an email thread with Nokia care below but  it really isnt worth reading!

I have waited patiently whilst the V12 software has been released to the rest of the world and more recently to UK contract N97 phones. I have, as advised below, continued repeatedly tried to keep my software up-to date via NSU, by phone and PC and as you should know have received no new firmware.

This evening SW updater instructed me to update via PC to V12.0.026 via PC. I have updated NSU to V1.08 and, yes you guessed it, I am told that V11 is the most recent software!Your website "www.nokia.com/softwareupdate, select the 'Can I Update?"  now returns V12 as the current software available for my product code (0585162) so why is it still unavailable to me?You assured me that my feedback was "forwarded to the right department for action" What action has taken place? Why are you making such a mess of getting these overdue firmware updates out?  ----- Original Message ----- From: @nokia.comTo: @ntlworld.comSent: Wednesday, September 30, 2009 3:28 AMSubject: Nokia - Robin Ball - Nokia N97 software Update

Hello Robin,

Thank you for emailing Nokia Care.

It is true that the release of new firmware depends entirely on the product code of your phone which determines in which country and network circumstances the phone is used. Because of the different networks and broadcasting bands, each software is designed to be compatible for a specific use. Nokia does not want to offer you a software designed to be compatible with other networks and therefore restrain you from freely using your device.

The best way to determine if a new software is available for your specific phone is to go to www.nokia.com/softwareupdate, select the 'Can I Update?'  tab. By following the steps, you will be informed on the latest firmware available for your device without failure.

Please be assured that all our customer feedback is forwarded to the right department for further review and action. We do understand the impatience of users to upgrade their software in use and we do apologise for the lack of new firmware. Nokia strongly recommends you to check for new updates periodically and to actually update the software as soon as available for a full package of new features and a better handling phone.

Keep your phone software up-to-date by using the Nokia Software Updater. For more details visit Nokia Support and Software at http://www.nokia.co.uk/support or http://www.nokia.ie/support. You can also go online to find user guides, troubleshooting support and other services to help you use your Nokia product.

This response has been given based on the information you have provided us. The response is provided for general information purposes only. It is intended, but not promised or guaranteed to be accurate or complete, and it does not constitute any binding commitment.

To ensure proper handling, please continue to use the current subject line.

Yours sincerely,

Add me to the list as well, totally fed up with Nokia, while i love my N97 it drives me mad not having the updates.

And today i also found that i cant even update my PC software as Nokia doesn't support Windows 7 64bit, oh joy

Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

well to run NSU on windows 7, you got to install it in compatibility mode. Right click the setup file>properties> Compatibilty tab> and choose windows xp sp3 compatibility mode and run it. I have installed it this way in my windows 7

Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

I'd just like to add my name to this list.  My first Nokia in many years was the 5310 XpressMusic.  A great little phone (emphasis on the little), which was also very cleverly designed, but fatally flawed for a long time due to buggy FW which caused it to crash when you played MP3s (great for a phone designed explicitly as a music player).  Anyway, I eventually moved on to a 5320, which was a very good way in to the Symbian phones, and now I have a sleek and shiny E52.  I chose it over an HTC Hero for a number of reasons, but I didn't think of stability as I assumed that by now Nokia would have realised it wasn't too clever to release phones before their FW was stable - especially on the E series phones...

I wasn't aware of the UK getting FW releases later than elsewhere, but looking around on this forum I found a screenshot of a German phone showing FW 022.005 (mine is 021.013 and NSU thinks it's up to date).  I've got my fingers crossed that I don't experience any stability issues, but if I do, this phone is going straight back - I am not going to put up with another buggy phone.  I got it from the mobilephonesdirect shop in Oxford which used to be a Nokia store, so it is an unbranded phone.

there is a way to help things out {snipped!}

1) We should not have to jump through all those hoops, risk bricking the phone and loosing the warranty... Although I would love to see Nokia try that excuse to duck a warranty repair, I doubt they'd really want the bad press and attention it would generate from trading standards.

2) You can't talk about it on here, hence the edit in the quote above... It is usually called "That which must not be spoken about" on this board!

Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

After reading on some forums that v12 was back out for 0585162, I checked yesterday (17th) with Nokia Software Update,  I think it was version 1.8.10en and got the v12 update around 5pm for 0585162, black uk sim free handset.
