Hi all,

We removed the post from the journalist because our rules do not allow any member to act on behalf of any company or organisation on the boards, it is not that we do not want you to communicate with the paper concerned and you are of course welcome to contact this individual via private message or outside of the boards.

Nokia UK HQ have long been aware of this thread, I have been in contact with them personally, though I don't yet have any news that I can give you on this topic.

Kind regards.

I respect your reasoning for the removal of the post, and also respect the rules.
I will contact the person involved and ask them to interact with people via personal message only.

I would like to know why the posts even relating to the original journalists post were deleted as well?

Could you tell us when you made Nokia UK HQ aware of this thread? It feels like no response from them is possibly going to be their response? You'd of thought they could have managed an acknowledgement of our concerns and promise to come back to us after some internal discussion...

The point I made in my annoyingly deleted post was essentially that we'd like information from Nokia (estimated release dates, reasons for withdrawals, updates if releases will be delayed, anything more than we get now). Surely it can be seen that the lack of information is creating suspicion and resentment? I don't think these things are unreasonable requests? Particularly when we're talking about an expensive high end bit of kit and considering the types of users that are prepared to pay for this kind of device.

mirkocat, Lets just calm this down and keep it constructive.

Shouting and kicking up a fuss is going to send this thread off topic.  For now lets just forget about the removed post and stick to the topic.  I will be contacting the journalist and explaining the situation.

Jauhis has given us information earlier so we will wait to see if that comes true and improves the update situation in the UK once and for all.

Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

The posts following it were removed because there was little point leaving posts which refer to a removed post as it makes no sense to new readers. We particularly could not leave the posts which quoted it word-for-word as this is as much of a breach as the original post itself.

Please be aware that Nokia Support Discussions is a peer-to-peer support forum. We have 'bent' the rules to allow this thread to continue even though it is outside of our scope due to the nature of the issue. As Psychomania points out, this thread is making progress and there has already been positive feedback from Nokia in this thread indicating that Nokia is working to resolve the issues. If we receive any more official statements on the issue, they will be published here.

Thanks for responding. I wasn't trying to cause problems and certainly wouldn't want to be violating any forum rules.

I've been following this thread for the last few pages and haven't had a chance to read the earlier posts yet. It's good to see posts from people like you and Jauhis commenting on here and to know that it is getting some attention from Nokia.

I also would agree with psychomania that this thread needs to stay on topic and calm to have real effect. It's easy to get frustrated with the situation though.

Fingers crossed things are improving and there won't be any need for this thread in the future!

Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

Just wanted to add my support to this campaign. After having to do "that which shall not be talked about" to my T-Mobile N96 I took great care to get an unbranded phone this time (product code 0585162) and am yet another person getting hacked off with Nokia's neglect of their UK customers.

Hoping for V20 soon or else it looks like I will have to do that "thing" again and find myself a European product code.

Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

Finally, version 31 just came over FOTA to my unbranded Nokia 5800 (UK). Not sure if this is the end result of the pressure from this forum, but if it is, a huge thanks to everyone involved.

Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

Well, **** me sideways...

I updated my UK CV 5800 (PC 0575581) to V30.0.011 by FOTA this afternoon.

Looks like I'll have to reset it to get the e-mail notification thingy on the home screen but other than that, no snags so far. Maybe it feels a little more snappy than before.

Have just tried an over the air update again and still nothing. My sim free 5800 came direct from Nolia UK, so perhaps I am right at the bottom of the pile

Sorry but that isn't relevant to this thread.  If you have an orange branded/supplied phone then it is orange that is holding up the update, not nokia.

This thread is just for unbranded UK models, please don't send it off topic.

Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

In addition to the post about N97 PR2.0 :

The new official 5800 release has been confirmed today. It is PR3.11 (31.1.xxx), and will be delivered in phases starting with Nokia language variants followed by country variants (such as UK) and operator/customer variants.

As this is a UK specific thread I might say that UK country variants are top on the list for both of these products. Hope you guys will enjoy the latest improvements as soon as they are ready for download via NSU or FOTA.

Re: Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality

That's good news, thankyou.

Any word on what it contains? I.e. kinetic scrolling or changes to homescreen/widgets?

Or is it just a bugfix update?
