I have yet to understand the wait UK owners have to suffer why??????
On one hand we have been handed the flagship aka Titanic of Nokia in the shape of N97 and on the other hand we have to unneccassarily suffer for just being in UK, its miserable.

I've been reading these posts now for 6 weeks since purchasing N97 and have been waiting for someone to start this sort of thread. I feel so strongly that nokia can sell us a product which operates so poorly. I registered for the first time tonight just to support this campaign and cannot believe a flagship product can be so poor. N900 sales will be affected by this experience and similarly I can no longer recommend Nokia to friends.

I also specifically went with a provider supplying sim free UK spec handsets thinking I would be able to take advantage of firmware updates early on in their release. As others have said, this is not the case and am dissapointed with the way that updates, besides the other issues with the handset, are being handled.
Knowing how the updates can improve a device that can otherwse start out a bit lame because of the faults and bugs (eg N95) taking the sheen off an otherwise brilliant product, I would like to see the same level of improvements for the N97, which seems to have started out life in the same way.
Thank you michaels, for flagging the thread, hopefully it will be taken notice of and actioned upon, rather than swept under the carpet.

it annoys me too and i also think we should have beta firmwares avalible via beta labs
this way users could decide wether they wanted to try beta fimrware and report back on issues they found to nokia
this would make the final firmware more stable due to more feedback and also early adapters would be able to have the chance to try the new fimrware
why euro is so different to the uk i dont know
ps
bit off topic but why cant mods also highlight the 20 page n97 gps thread in the maps section and the n97 camera scratching issue in this section
it seems them topics are taboo but this ones ok cmon equality across the board :-)

I whole-heartedly agree that the current situation is unacceptable. Nokia should either provide a technical reason as to why they can't release UK firmwares at the same time as the rest of the world, or hurry up and release the firmware. Even a Beta Labs release would be acceptable.
I'll be writing to my MEP to ask whether this is in breach of Eurpoean single market regulations.
If I buy another Nokia handset (and that's a much bigger if than I ever thought it would be) it'll be from the continent.

It will be very interesting to hear the reply that you get to this. Thank you (and everyone else) for the great support so far!

Dear Nokia,
Please fix the annoying bug that makes all your emails and text messages disappear if the default save location is mass memory. This happens every time I connect my N97 with my PC in Mass Memory Mode. Please include a fix to this bug in your next firmware and please make that firmware available for the customers who paid £499 for a unbranded phone no later than 2 – 3 weeks after the official release date.
Regards
Nokia user since 2001

stanley9, this thread isn't the correct place to discuss specific bugs.
The point of this thread is to stay on topic, remain constructive, raise awareness and hopefully, eventually make a difference.

Its very frustrating. My phone Nokia 5800) is on Orange in the uk (RM-356) and i've been waiting for the new firmware for ages. My wife got the same phone on the same network and her firmware updates came a lot later than mine, all because she has a different product code.
Come on Nokia, sort yourselves out! Give us better support, pelase.

I'll add my voice to this. It is ridiculous that one of the main markets for modern technology is subject to these delays. Again, the ,longer this persists, the less likely I am to continue supporting the firm.
Apple are already sniffing about, trying to pinch me over to the dark side.

I agree with everyone - this is my FIRST ever Nokia handset, and I have to say it has not been a good first impression at all. I thought Sony Ericcssons were bad so moved to Nokia but oh my god. It seems the best "normal" phone manufacturer at the moment (note: not HTC, Apple or Palm) is Samsung - their phones seem reasonably stable and run nice and quickly. I don't know if they get regular firmware updates but it seems they don't need it.
I also got my phone unbranded because I figured I'd get the updates when they came out, I was fed up of my network taking forever to approve the firmwares. Obviously it's still going to be quicker than waiting for the network a lot of the time, but still, v12 was released ages ago and we STILL don't have it, and I bet it will take forever for v20 to come out. Why the hell should the UK have to wait for longer than NA and the rest of Europe? There aren't any fundamental differences with our phones, just the product codes.
