Re: Firmware 20.0.015 problem

Got the same problem.
Both with a XP and a Vista Laptop.
I installed the V20 load on the XP machine, but when I got home I could not connect to my Vista machine.

The XP laptop started working on cable after I connected by bluetooth first.
I will let you know if I make any progress.

Any other ideas welcome.

Same problem here. USB cable worked straight after update - but after restoring backup through cable, it no longer functions - doesn't even flash up on phone screen when connecting to USB on computer - check phone settings. Bluetooth works though? Any help appreciated - using Vista, no problems with cable connections before update to 20.0.015.

Re: Firmware 20.0.015 problem

Sector,

Subject: USB cable did not work after V20.0.0.15 upgrade.

After the USB cable did not work......

On the phone, I went to tools...settings...connection...USB, and changed the "USB mode" and "Ask on connection" values a few of times and re-tried the cable connection and it started working.

Don't ask why!!

I then backed up what I could to PC Suite making sure the sync direction was correct, and then re-installed the V20.0.0.15 firmware "without" restoring from memory card, and then re-synced PC Suite after making sure the sync direction was correct, and all is now OK connecting via cable.

Yes I lost my emails, installed programs, text messages and stuff that I did not back up, and things I may not of missed yet, but contacts, calendar, notes etc are restored by Nokia PC Suite and emails are on the server (wifi connection to re-download).

Maybe just changing the connection settings will fix it for you?

But it feels good to have a clean install that may have had software that was possibly not that compatable???
and also a chance to get the latest versions and updates.

If you do a full back up to memory card or PC first, as I assume you already have done, you will at least be able to restore everything if this does not help your problem and you do not want to loose anything.

Hope this helps

Re: Firmware 20.0.015 problem

Thank you my friend i will keep trying... But it seems useless and shame for now.
Before update was working great now we are facing this...
We might not be able to update again our phone and i dont think it can be done via bluetooth :smileyvery-happy:

Anw i will keep trying and i will update here. It happens with
Windows Vista Ultimate.

Btw i noticed that in Device Manager when i plug the phone the N95 devices becomes disabled.
When i enable it still no connection...

Any Windows XP user have the same problem?

Re: Firmware 20.0.015 problem

I had no problems whatsoever. However, feeling that this update was to be a major one, I didn't backup anything. Just copied my contacts to the memory card and I always accessed my messages from the memory card itself so I started everything from scratch. I didn't want to leave any settings or applications from the v12 firmware era :smileyhappy: After the update, I just had to point the Messaging app to the memory card, and copy the contacts back to the phone memory.

I know, it seems like a lot of work to install all the software and themes, fine tune all the settings all over again but I feel it's always necessary when the update is this thorough.

Updated on a Win XP machine at the office, and installed everything back on a Vista machine at home without any problems...

I did the upgrade and decided to NOT adding anything from the backup, all is running perfecly. I have tested connecting to Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista, and they all works perfect. My advice would be, be careful what you brings forward from the backup.

Re: Firmware 20.0.015 problem

The only problem I'm having is Vista (Ultimate 64bit) doesn't find the driver when connecting in Data transfer mode. Luckily I have XP still on my old hdd to install maps for gps!

The only thing I've noticed is that Vista names it as a Nokia Nokia N95 USB Device.

PC Suite mode works fine!

Any ideas would be appreciated?

Re: Firmware 20.0.015 problem

If having problems after a successfull upgrade & backup, try a clean install. Uninstall PC Suite, & run the PC Suites cleaner, then install the latest version of PC Suite (not the one with the package).

Re: Firmware 20.0.015 problem

Ok i have solved the problem. Here is what i did.

I removed the battery for 15-20 seconds and then plug it in back again.

Inserted the usb cable and the PC Suite found now my mobile.

I reinstalled the firmware and everything is working great now.

I suggest not to restore from the backup again. This is i think what it caused the problem.
Save your contacts somewhere on desktop. There are saved like VCards so you can restore them back with the PC Suite.

Then you have to manually reinstall all your programs from beginning, which i think you wouldn't mind if u want to have a successfully working N95.

This is my 2cents i hope you will get over with this. :smileyhappy:

Happy ending for me now if anyone wants more help im glad to help.

Re: Firmware 20.0.015 problem

Thanks sector, that did the work!

Strangely, I did not restore any settings. And I only copied/restore my contacts as vCard files. And I don't have any Vista. But the USB stopped working after the upgrade and the first connection.

Re: Firmware 20.0.015 problem

When you do a restore from a memory card, does the phone ask what you want restoring ?

Not done this yet as the v20 is not available for my UK product code yet.

Re: Firmware 20.0.015 problem

Hi, I solved the USB DKE2 cable/restore problem by hard resetting the phone, then USB worked. (this is on Vista Ultimate).

I tried the reinstall of PC suite - was a waste of time though as the problem was definitely the phone.

So I restored contacts and gallery but not text messages and settings - this is what I think could be causing the problem. Then it worked fine. Just need to redo all the settings manually.

So other posts confirm, problem is in restore - possibly the settings saved with backup/restore on old firmware don't work with new firmware. Hope that helps.

Re: Firmware 20.0.015 problem

Out of interest, did you have Rotateme or Fexplorer installed prior to the backup.

I thing I read somewhere that they have on a few occasions caused USB problems.

Re: Firmware 20.0.015 problem

Yes you are correct there. Rotateme was installed on my N95 and I think that was the problem. Fixed with latest beta v3 from Samir though. No USB problems since.
