After waiting for the new V20.050 firmware for almost 2 months for my product code, I was very frustrated. I sent many emails to Nokia, posted messages here, etc.

Then I said to myself, "what am I doing?" I mean, when I bought my Nokia 7650, I didn't have NSU or FOTA at home. I used to go to Nokia Care Center, and get my phone updated.

So, I took my N96 to Nokia Care Center. It's been a long time, since I haven't been there for a firmware update.

I asked to them: "What is the latest firmware version for N96?" They said "V20.050."

Then I said: "Yeah, I have been waiting for V20 for my product code but it is still not showing."

They said: "It's OK, if you have 30 minutes, give us your phone, wait here and we will update it and give it back to you."

I said: "Yeah but I am sure you guys don't have the firmware for my product code."

They said: "Did you buy the phone from here or bring it from abroad?"

I said: "Here, and it is still under warranty."

They said: "Then we don't care about the product code, all we need is you N96., we use totally different system than NSU or FOTA. "

I gave my phone to them, waited and got my phone back.

Annndddddd there it was! V20.050!

I wish I could take my phone to them much sooner, not waiting after 2 months!

And today's lesson is: Next time, if I don't see the new firmware on NSU or FOTA, I will take it back to Nokia Care and get it updated there. It is pretty fast, they don't open up your phone or anything.  

 

But I can tell you that V20.050 is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO ALL N96 USERS.

I will miss Michael Jackson....

They use software that's authorised for use only by Nokia service centres. We're not allowed to mention it here.

Was that a generic Nokia version or a branded operator version?  I'm still waiting on T-Mobile, they may be a while, they only released 12.043 about 4 weeks ago!!

shayesta, I see you have (V21.020 / RM-247) software at the bottom of your post. How did you get this firmware and do you have any idea when it will be relased to the public.

its beta firmware. so if everything goes ok then it will be released on NSU or may be updated to v30 or v31 etc.

We have "Lost Contact Thumbnail" Problem with V20.050. We can see the images for contacts during in/out calls, but can't see nothing when browsing tru contacts in the contacts menu.

Do you have the same thing with V21?

Thank You. The problem is when we update N96 to V20.050 and transfer our contact list, all the contacts are there but their thumbnails are gone. Also in Speed Dialing, the thumbnails are all gone. Only the names are appearing. We can still see the thumbnails in/out making calls though.

People say you must re-enter all the thumbnails manually again. That is the only way, they say.
