Error updating 5800 to V30

It's been 2 days now that I am trying to update my 5800 to V30 but I can't , after I check for updates I see the new FW to be available but after I accept to download and install it shows an error " Error occurred. Software update must be restarted." and it happens all the times. I don't know what could be wrong with my phone.

BTW I did the *#7370# trick already.

Re: Error updating 5800 to V30

OTA requires fast internet connection. If it fails then use NSU to update your mobile's firmware. For that.. Uninstall all Nokia Application from your PC and restart it. Now download the latest version of Nokia PC Suite and NSU and install it in your PC and restart it again. Now turn off firewall and antivirus software. Backup all the important data of your mobile using PC Suite backup utility (for safety, if problem persist). Now restart your mobile and connect it with your PC using original data cable. Run NSU and do the procedure written in NSU. Don't run any application in your mobile and PC while running NSU. Good luck...

Re: Error updating 5800 to V30

OTA does not require a fast internet connection. This is nonsense. It's designed to work even using GPRS, which is why the download size is significantly smaller.

NSU will be of no help because V30 is only available by FOTA.

There are many potential reasons why a FOTA update could fail, the most likely of which being a problem with the method you're using to connect the phone to the intrernet. If you're using packet data then try over a WLAN - or vice-versa.

Second on the list I'd suggest that there's not enough free memory on your phone's C: drive to store the patches and have enough room to work in. Uninstall a few applications and/or themes and get rid of some messages to free up space on C:.

If none of these work then your best bet is to take the phone into a Nokia Care Point and ask them to do the update. They have methods at their disposal that we members of the general public don't.

As mentioned by post007, always back up your sensitive data before a firmware update. The 5800 has User Data Preservation and you should therefore not lose any data, but better to be safe than sorry.

Re: Error updating 5800 to V30

To grschinon, I recently read one of your post that v30 is only available via FOTA and not available via NSU. But I want to ask you one few question that if GPRS worked in FOTA then why you suggest him for WiFi? I am also using GPRS for accessing internet and I can download Nero 9 latest update which file size is 396 MB. It takes 10 hours to download in my mobile. If GPRS works for FOTA then there is no need to find another connectivity. One more question. The user already told that he has used *#7370# code. This code wipe out C drive of mobile then there is no question about space requirement for downloading updates. If the updates files are bigger then C drive then that is not user fault but the mistake by Nokia. Anyway, your research is genuine that v30 is only available via FOTA and that is appreciated.

Because the mobile network operator could be experiencing difficulties.

If GPRS works for FOTA then there is no need to find another connectivity.

When diagnosing a problem there's every reason to explore as many avenues as possible in order to pinpoint the problem.

The user already told that he has used *#7370# code. This code wipe out C drive of mobile then there is no question about space requirement for downloading updates.

Without knowing the full sequence of events I had no reason to assume that the user didn't restore the data after resetting the phone.
