Blank_Reg posted this in another thread and I thought I'd share it. I dont know if this only works with UK codes or not.
Also if ther is a letter in your product code then be sure to enter it in upper case.
I hope this helps a few of you

If a person owns a phone that was flashed to unbrand it,what happens when you attempt to update the firmware? Does the unit's product code remain after flashing and would that restrict updates to the firmware, unless it's approved by the original network?

If you try to update using device SW update you will get any updates commensurate with existing unbranded firmware, but not if you use Ovi Suite which will read original network branded product code which is "burnt" into chip and deliver software accordingly.

That's very interesting. I would never thought product code was burnt into the chip. I'll try the OTA option once the latest firmware becomes available;that's only after I read about everyone else's experiences first. I do understand it's desirable to do the full firmware update through OVI suite, but does it really make that much of a difference? Would OVI suite for all intents be flashing the phone, whereas OTA only updates the necessary files? Once you update OTA,can you then go and reinstall the full version through OVI suite?
