I've got a n95-8Gb mobile and I get this same error on my 3 PCs (WinXP and Vista).
Before I made some updates but now I can't.
There are any news about this error to solve it?
Thanks.

Yes, there is a solution:
I went to a nokia care and in 20 minutes they upgrade my phone ![]()
Yes, this solution isn't a solution but at last I have my firmware updated.
I hope they solve this error before next version.
Bye.

How **bleep** are Nokia about this?
There is clearly a problem here, would be nice if they got off their **bleep** and fixed it or even just acknowledged it.

Solution, works
1) Press default settings option
2) Format the external memory
3) Remove the battery, and then wait for about 30s or so before putting it back
4) Press and hold these forue keys together -Green dial key, Star key[*], Three key [3], switch ON phone key-
5) Do not let go the four keys until you see screen with timezone or something else
-works in nokia pc suite/nokia software updater (NSU) & works in OVI

I got same problem, but i found a solution, you will need to get a PC with XP SP2, NOT SP3, theres a bug on NSU, included the lastest versions. The same goes for Vista.
See my post about it:

Hi,
I had the same problem when I tried to update my Nokia 3120 Classic. I received the error message: For optimum connectivity your USB cable should be connected directly to the PC, and not via USB hub, USB keyboard or laptop docking station.
However, checking the log of the Nokia System Updater, I could see that it was looking for a wrong file name during the update process.
The NSU tried to find the file rm364__10.00_ISM_001.image_l_364_graphite_l_Clarob
After I renamed the file rm364__10.00_ISM_006.image_l_364_graphite_l_Clarob
I hope this workaround can help you.
Regards,
Jose
