Hi all,

          I was browsing thru allaboutsymbian article and i found that they too have forum about Nokia and symbian products i registered there and i was checking a topic related to firmware updates of devices,all of sudden i found a thread posted by a user having the same product code as mine he too uses N73me

My question is it possible?? or the user has changed his product code but when i enter my product code it still says available version is 4.0812.4.2.1 but there is a higher version available

Pls comment on this

The product code is nothing more than a kind of extended model number. It identifies the actual model as well as the network that supplied it, what country it's from etc. It isn't a serial number.

As for the discrepancy in available firmware versions, the "can I update" page is often out of sync with NSU and can't really be taken seriously as a guide to what versions are available for various product codes.

From ur reply can i come to conclusion that  the product code can be same for devices manufactured from different countries also mine is not a network branded one mostly in our country there are are less network branded ones when compared to EU

Also the Firmware update doesnt bothers me a lot

Technically, it's possible, albeit highly unlikely because phones manufactured in different plants are shipped to different countries and will therefore have different product codes.

I dont know what do you mean by "technically it's Possible" 

Fine it will have different Product codes, i am still not convinced why the same product code is there in someother device somewhere. It would br gr8 if i get some more clarity in this

Who knows how you and the other person got your phones? Who knows what you've done with them since you've had them? And those are just rhetorical questions designed to point out the number of variables there are in this situation.

Also, I think you misunderstood the other poster. I don't think they're saying the latest available firmware for their phone is that V3.something, I think they're merely saying that that is the version installed in the phone.

Misunderstood with what?? i dont bother about the Firmware which is running on that device its all about that device's product code which matches mine

let me put a full stop to it as it may go beyond borders of discussions

The product code is not exclusive for one mobile. IMEI is exclusive for one mobile and no other mobile has same IMEI. Take an example that same company, same car model availale in Britain for right hand drivine but it is available in USA for left hand driving. Mobile service providers in every country uses different type of codes and signals for providing their mobile service. So the company has to make their mobiles that support their country code. So they have to make some changes in firmware. Now how company knows that which NSU user is from which country, so they provide firmware for that country? They put product code which divide that mobile for region and they give software for our mobile which support our country code and for that they scan mobile's product code. Now many people use one model in one country and so they have different IMEI but product code is same.

I think it is possible. cuz my handset product code is 0568362 and it is the same with my friends handset product code.

Is ur Phone SIM locked or network branded So ur friend's
