Belle and battery life

Re: Belle and battery life

OK, it seems my problem is just calibration. None of the widgets gives a correct % above 80% charge so that's why I got these readings. Hopefully by draining fully and then recharging it will calibrate.

Anyone else knows a proper way to calibrate battery on Symbian?

Re: Belle and battery life

I too find that the battery life is a bit shorter. But not bad; after reading all the reports of the Lumia issues.

Yesterday; the first day after the upgrade to Belle, the phone discharged in 1 day. I noticed that I had kept the wi-fi ON.

Today, I've kept it off and the battery has gone to 69% as of now on my usual usage. With Anna; by this time that charge would have been close to 80%. So Belle does take a bit more juice than Anna.

This brings me to another con of belle. The wi-fi has to be manually switched on and off. Earlier with Anna, I used to keep it off and the moment I use an application that needs the net, it looks for a know WLAN (which was the setting I used) and then switches back off when I was done with it.

I used to get 2+ days of charge with Anna on my E7

Re: Belle and battery life

I agre, there is no option to swich of wi fi scaning. That could be the main reason for shorter battery life in my e6.

Re: Belle and battery life

I upgraded to Belle less than 2 days ago and have had to charge my phone daily.  I have turned on all the power saving options which I never had on before and it is worse.  I have reduced the email updates.  I have added the battery life indicator which says is something in the background that it is eating the battery life but I have no applications running.  I wonder if I can go back to Anna????

Re: Belle and battery life

i too, felt the battery drainage on my c7. So now i've installed battery monitor2.2 and changed some settings. Network mode switched from dual mode to gsm. Email frequency switched from soonest to every 30 minutes. Still seeing the results. perhaps the new social app and its widgets are partly responsible. Or has the processor been overclocked with belle?

Re: Belle and battery life

Bear in mind my Apps don't give correct readings so I don't trust them. I think the battery holds OK but the apps give faster discharge for some reason. I think battery monitoring is broken and not actual battery life. BatteryInfo, Battery Info and Battery Monitor are all completely wrong on my E7. I will see if anything changes after a full discharge...

Re: Belle and battery life

On my N8 connection manager reported Maps using an internet connection despite quitting the Maps app. I've updated to Maps 2.0 (available from the Beta Labs site) and that appears not to have the same problem.

Re: Belle and battery life

slept through the night. All data connections turned off. 70% remaining after 9 hours standby. Now 61% after 11.5 hours having mobile data turned on after waking up.

Re: Belle and battery life

I have had the same problem with the phone backside getting warm and battery life decreasing fast, much like other users have reported here. I did update though retaining all my applications and settings, therefore I have done a Factory Reset and Restore, so installing all my applications again now and see how it goes. Usually a clean slate does the trick

Re: Belle and battery life

Hi all,

we have the following FAQ now for Battery life vs. WiFi:

What to do if the power consumption on my Nokia Belle device is high when Wi-Fi is on and connected to an access point?

You can check the power saving settings for Wireless LAN (Wi-Fi), select Settings > Connectivity > Wi-fi > Settings. The latter settings menu (bottom-right icon with 3 horizontal bars) is available only when Wi-Fi is switched on. Enable the setting in case it is disabled.

It is recommended not to disable the Wi-Fi power saving unless it is absolutely necessary, e.g. browsing doesn't work at all. Usually the problems are related to the power saving, that’s why the option to disable Wi-Fi power saving is available. Quite often the issues can be fixed by updating the Wi-Fi Access Point firmware which can be found on the Wi-Fi Access Point vendor's support pages.

Re: Belle and battery life

my wifi power saving is already enabled. And i performed a hard reset and firmware reinstall anyway. Now at 15 hours usage i have 43% left. I've only done a few texts and used vlingo a few times, but otherwise my phone was on standby.

Re: Belle and battery life

battery monitor shows that background tasks use as much energy as the most energy consuming app on the list, which is the web browser in my case. The social app and vlingo were always running in the background. Maybe that is the problem?

Re: Belle and battery life

Well with my C7 with Belle the WLAN works exactly the same as in Anna. The WLAN setting from the pulldown menu is set to ON and if an app needs internet connection the phone connects to a known WLAN. When the connection is not needed anymore the WLAN is disconnected automatically. And the same works with the mobile data connection. When not needed my phone disconnects both connections and both are set to ON from the pulldown.
