Any Update Tips (V40) for 5800XM, please?

I am updating V21 to V40 and maps from 3.01 to 3.03. I intend to backup and then to use the Software Updater on my PC. Do I need to first:

Uninstall Maps 3.01 app?

Uninstall my maps?

Remove the memory card?

Anything else?

Will I need to reinstall apps like QuickOffice (paid for version)?

Do any important problematic settings typically get changed?

When I updated, none of my apps got uninstalled. However, Ovi will make you do a complete backup before the update continues anyway. AFAIK this would backup QuickOffice license files.

When you install 3.03, it will ask you to uninstall old version so you say yes. Then when you run 3.03, it will say old map data not compatible, delete? you say yes to that also. Then download and use maploader to download map data using your PC or you can use wi-fi or mobile data as you wish to download the maps / voices for your location/region.

There is no need to uninstall the memory card. Just make sure you disable all passwords for phone/memory card before you update.

In fact my update from 20.x to 40.x was one of the least painful in a very long time. All apps worked, all data was intact, there was absolutely no need to 'restore' anything. But you must have the backup. And 40.x is working quite well. A big improvement is that now the log at least has the correct icons for the listing - i.e. a mobile and landline show separate icons. so that at least you know where to call back if necessary.

Well. I updated to V40 without uninstalling anything and without removing the memory card.

It went smoothly but did not install maps 3.03, leaving Maps 3.01 in place.

I then tried updating to Maps 3.03 but it just kept offering me 3.01.

I had to uninstall Maps 3.01 and remove my maps (and I deleted the cities and qf folder for good measure!) before it would update to Maps 3.03.

I guess that to get Maps 3.03 installed at the same time as V40 I should have uninstalled at least the maps data and cities and qf folders - and probably also 3.03 (which I was unhappy about uninstalling as it needed a battery-out restart when I originally installed it!) I did not get automatically offered that option.

All apps worked OK

Thanks for sharing your experiences!

I had downloaded the new maps 3.03 from Nokia website and used PC Suite to install it.

I also downloaded and installed Map Loader to download maps for my preferred regions and installed them.
