Hi. I have a 6700 Classic RM-470. I have just updated the firmware to V 10.50 only to discover that my Email folder in the Messaging folder has completely vanished along with the Email settings in the Message settings folder! I am awaiting a response from Nokia. Any one else had the same problem? BTW I've reinstalled the firmware via NSU but to no avail! Cheers.

Yep. That was the first thing I did. Just thought I'd spread the word because I couldn't find anyone else with the same problem. Cheers.

Hi. Thank goodness it's not just me!! I had an email from Nokia saying they'd respond within 48 hours. Well that was one o'clock today and I'm still waiting. BTW I uninstalled NSU and installed OVI suite and re-did the update using that and it's still missing. Both the email and IMs applications are invalidated by the update. Cheers.

I'm sick of the lack of response from Nokia so I sent yet another email yesterday evening and got the standard automated response. Either they're too busy on the new firmware v11 to contact me (ha ha) or they're burying their heads in the sand over this issue. I came back to Nokia after using Sony Ericsson for a few years and have had 5800XM, N97 and this one and so far they've all been expensive flops!

Finally gave up waiting for a response and rang Nokia direct. Just spent 40 minutes trying to explain the problem to someone who seemed less qualified to provide technical support than me. The upshot is that because I hadn't done a back up of my settings, even though the phone was new and straight out of the box when I did the update, that it's MY fault that the applications have both disappeared! What a load of tosh. I now have to go to my 'nearest' Nokia care centre which is only 30 miles away and get it re-flashed to V 7.60. Moral of the story: if you have a 6700 and like to use it for email for God's sake DON'T update to V 10.50.

I got the same mail client issue it is now a totally different application. Nokia Care was very wondering that normal mail client has gone and proposed to contact a service center. But I am sure that was 10.50...
Let''s wait for the next update and cross the fingers ![]()

I'm not holding my breath! Being very cynical it seems a bit strange that you lose both the email and instant messaging apps but gain Ovi contacts, etc. Presumably so you are forced to use them instead?! ![]()

Same happened to me last night. Had I only read this thread before. But I thought I am safe with the proposed backup and restore of my data before and after the update. Actually the problems started when the installation did not finish and the phone looked as if broken at one point - it could not be turned on any more, nor was it recognized by the computer any more. I could make it work again by temporarily removing the battery. Afterwards the whole update process finished successfully - but only apparently.
It turned out: t could not restore my addresses, which ran into an error. It could restore my applications (railway schedules et al.), but half of them were corrupt and I had to delete and install them again. Interestingly part of their data was still intact. I also could restore my settings, but well, the layout of the home screen and my "go to" menu was gone.
It took me a while to find out that all my setup email accounts were history as well.
Now when I try to add an email account I am obliged to agree to some Nokia Messaging Service Terms and Privacy Policy, even though I do not want to use any Nokia Service (which I might end up having to pay for). I just want my email back.
What really bothers me is that there was no sign of warning during the update process, that I might lose any of my data or applications.
Thumb down to Nokia. Sorry. ![]()

I'm quite happy with Nokia Messaging as I've had it on my old 5800 and N97 and therefore used to it. My 6700 is still showing invalid applications for email and IMS after every repeated reinstall of the 10.50 firmware. I'm now relegated to using Emoze which is a pain because you only get push messages when the application is open. Ho-hum.

Nokia in there wisdom have changed the email settings on the 6700 with the new update v 10.50 software. If you want to go into your email go to Menu/messaging/E-mail where you will see a white screen with a number of e-mail options if yours is not there go to (other) and imput your e-mail address and password and then signin your phone should now access your e-mail account if it will not login you may have to try a few times untill you get an update took 12hours for my update to come through the down side to all this is you can not get your e-mail sent to your phone automatic any more

I've just reinstalled 10.50 for the umpteenth time and now have email back! HOWEVER it is NOT what was originally installed in the phone but some nasty third rate Java based web mail application. (It looks and works a lot like Email on 3). As a result the email isn't integrated into the rest of the phone's operating system. You can't create an email from Messaging/Create message and you can't email a contact directly from the contacts list. Also the email settings are buried in the application NOT in the messaging settings. AND as it's a program you have to log in and log out of it and therefore push email isn't available. What the hell are Nokia trying to do? Why change something that was right in the first place? The way I'm feeling at the moment I might see if I can throw the phone as far as Finland!!

I updated my Orange phone from 7.60 to 10.50 last night using OVI and have to say it was not an easy process. Luckily I did allow OVI to backup my phone first and after the install had completed the phone was reset to facotry default with no apps, contacts or messages so I restored my backup everything was restored apart from my menu settings.
I assume you all had your email within the text message menu? Have you all tried going to message area and select the message settings option? In there should be the following menu options:
General Settings
Text messages
Multimedia messages
E-mail messages - You should be able to set up email again in here?
Service messages
Email is not a separate application like it was on the 6300 and is part of the messaging suite?

have the same problem with the "updated" 6700, which was actually downgraded. There are no more eMail-options in the settings available. This is in contrary to what the printed manual of this product implies. Very disappointing! Hope that Nokia will soon restore the push eMail-function (and the integration of eMail altogether in the functions of the phone) very quickly.

Same problem here--updated to firmware 10.50 and now the email application is gone, replaced with the Nokia Messaging client, which doesn't work properly even for sending basic email messages. I went to the Nokia Store and they said they couldn't reflash the phone back to the previous firmware version "for security reasons." Why did Nokia replace the 6700's perfectly serviceable email application without even properly testing the replacement? This was my first time buying a Nokia product, and after this experience, I won't be buying a Nokia product again in the future.

What a relief!!! I thought I was the only one having this problem. ![]()
I've upgraded to version 10.60 but the problem is the same. Although I do have email on the phone, there are no options for adjusting email settings. Basically, under the "messaging settings' menu, I have:
General Settings
Text Settings
Multimedia Settings
Service Settings
From recollection, there should normally be a setting for "E-Mail Settings" in that list. But that's completely gone, and was gone with version 10.50 as well.
To be clear, I CAN sign in to email, and was able to set up multiple accounts, including yahoo and hotmail. These accounts work well and are up and running. And I was able to restore those accounts after updating the software from 10.50 to 10.60. So that's cool.
What I CAN'T do, is set the phone to check for email automatically or periodically update etc. I basically have to manually sign in to each account to check my messages! ![]()
Please please please, does anyone know what is going on with this and how to fix this?

I upgraded from firmware 7.60 to 10.50 and the Email/IM is still available, although I upgraded the firmware over the air (the update facility built into the phone).
I also bought a new Nokia 6700 yesterday, which has firmware 10.50 out of the box, and the different when comparing my old Nokia 6700 with my new Nokia 6700 is that there is now a Email and IM application in the Apps folder, so I don't know if this is why many have lost the Email and IM options.
However, I have a question also, I accidently deleted the Email and IM application on my new Nokia 6700 phone while transfering information from my old phone to new phone, is there a way to re-download those applications or would I have to reinstall the firmware in order to get those applications back?
I've been searching across the Nokia website and it says there are options to download the Email and IM application but I haven't found a link to it:

Many Nokia phones have email preinstalled. For other phones, you need to download the application to get started. In either case, setup takes just a few simple steps. As long as you have an existing email account and a mobile phone with a data plan, you can get started right away.
Thanks!

Hi
Did this problem ever get resolved? I'm in exactly the same situation with no menu option to let me change the email settings?
Thanks!
