5800 -> 21.0.025 firmware DOWN?

Me and some friends have been trying to upgrade to 21.0.025 firmware and even with product codes already confirmed to accept the 21.0.025 firmware it´s not possible... we think that nokia has removed that firmware or that the nokia upgrade servers are down... anyone has a clue??

Re: 5800 -> 21.0.025 firmware DOWN?

Something's definitely up. According to the "can I update?" page, the latest version for my own 5800 currently running V21 is V20...

Re: 5800 -> 21.0.025 firmware DOWN?

Could it be there's a fundamental &/or significant flaw in it somewhere or the possiblility of a security fault after all it does use an OS and you know how hackers like the challenge of an OS.

Re: 5800 -> 21.0.025 firmware DOWN?

Obviously there is a problem with this version (V21). In fact every time Nokia releases an update a notice in the news section is

published. I just checked and the notice is removed.So we have to wait for an explanation. In my opinion those who didn't update yet

didn't lose a single thing because apart the breathing light and the setings of the notification lights no big differences are introduced.

Re: 5800 -> 21.0.025 firmware DOWN?

Things that need to be fixed in the next firmware revision:

1/ Breathing & Messaging light fault, which has been mentioned several times elsewhere.

2/ Camera speed, it needs to be able to take more than 2 or 3 shots without freezing.

3/ Gallery, the search function takes ages to do if you have a big 16Gb card, you should be able to specify a folder to search.

4/ Picture deletion, it regularly takes 30 secs + to delete an image once its been found, why?

5/ The option to choose between single tap or double tap when selecting something.

6/ Memory scanning, it's so S....l.....o.....w. ZzZzZ.

7/ Battery life is now appauling, it seems to need to be charged on a daily basis and that's withhardly any use at all, Why?

8/ Increase the size of memory card allowable from 16 to 32Gb, useful for music, photos & documents.

9/ The ablity to force the closure of an application(s), from the Show open apps function, this would allow the phone to recover more quickly if it's having problems

Agreed.

It can, provided the memory card can keep up with the data throughput. Class 2 cards are a bit too slow.

3/ Gallery, the search function takes ages to do if you have a big 16Gb card, you should be able to specify a folder to search.

Once again, if the card is too slow, you'll have this kind of problem.

You can assign photos to albums and you can tag the photos with labels, too. This allows you to narrow your search down pretty efficiently.

4/ Picture deletion, it regularly takes 30 secs + to delete an image once its been found, why?

Slow memory card again.

5/ The option to choose between single tap or double tap when selecting something.

It's never bothered me but I can understand where you're coming from.

6/ Memory scanning, it's so S....l.....o.....w. ZzZzZ.

Slow memory card...

7/ Battery life is now appauling, it seems to need to be charged on a daily basis and that's withhardly any use at all, Why?

Could be a hardware problem linked to the camera problem maybe?

I regularly get 72 hours out of my battery.

8/ Increase the size of memory card allowable from 16 to 32Gb, useful for music, photos & documents.

It should work with 32GB cards now as long as they're fully compliant with SDHC standards.

9/ The ablity to force the closure of an application(s), from the Show open apps function, this would allow the phone to recover more quickly if it's having problems

Agreed.

Re: 5800 -> 21.0.025 firmware DOWN?

How can my memory card be too slow when it's a Class 6 card?

I get the similar results with a Class 4!

To me that's indicative of either Hardware problems or the crux of the matter being a dreadfully underpowered CPU, in which case no matter how much they refine the firmware they'll never be able to extract any meaningful performance hikes.

Re: 5800 -> 21.0.025 firmware DOWN?

I too feel that double and single tap should be made an option for selection to the user.

It is really annoying. Every time I touch the scroll bar after option Applications menu, I accidently tap any icon of application that I do not want to open. Starting an application should be made double click.

Now when we go to Settings, there we have to double click. Now, this is the area where it should be single tap.

Re: 5800 -> 21.0.025 firmware DOWN?

the autonomy of teh battery is very annoying. with the v20 I used to charge my phone once every 3 days with relative intensive use. Now with the v21 It hardly reaches the 2 days even with less work on the device.

Re: 5800 -> 21.0.025 firmware DOWN?

I am not really sure what is the problem with the battery life of this phone. When I bought it, it wouldn't even last one day but that was mainly due to dual network mode. Since the what i've seen is this....The battey meter remains full for a complete day in low usage. But if not charged it drops a bar or two mostly overnight and once it drops a bar or two even low usage or moderate usage drains out the battery before the end of the day.

So I'm really confused. Is there any problem with my cellphone's battery?? Coz many are saying they get a life of 2-3 days while an equal number say they charge it everyday

Re: 5800 -> 21.0.025 firmware DOWN?

Let´s hope that Nokia is about to release another FW. It´s the only reason why they pulled the V.21.0.025 from NSU. Let´s hope the fix 2 critical thing!

1. Batterylife!

2. Camera **bleep** quallity!

Anyone that agrees with me?

Re: 5800 -> 21.0.025 firmware DOWN?

[ Edited ]

When v21 first came out, I got a notification from Nokia, and downloaded it straight away. The main problem I have - and i posted this somewhere else in the forum - is that now when making calls, my screen goes to lock. and in order to hang up the call, i have to unlock. And before you mention to me about auto-lock - that is OFF (and yes, I've tried it in different configurations). So, essentially, anytime I call, the phone goes to lock automatically, and therefore that means the proximity sensor is also not working (in my opinion). This can be frustrating because when you make a call - say to a company where u need to use the key pad to direct your call - i have to unlock the phone,  - activate the number pad- then re-lock the screen w/ the phone to my ear so I don't accidentally push any buttons w/ my ear - then unlock the phone again to hang up. This is why i think it the update has been pulled.

is this only me? cheers

Re: 5800 -> 21.0.025 firmware DOWN?

I'm getting more than a little suspicious that there's a serious flaw in there now.

The $64,000 question being:

What was or is wrong with V21.0.025 that is so serious that it causes Nokia to withdraw it from distribution?
