I installed software updater, it found an update for my 5800, and while installing it on the phone my PC crashed.  Now I cannot get any life from my phone, presumably because the previous software was wiped before the new software was installed. When I turn my phone on all that happens is it starts to vibrate and the only way to stop it is to remove the battery.  How can I re install the phone operating system?

If none of that works then your only option is to take the phone to a Nokia Care Point. The recovery should be free as long as the phone is under guarantee.

I'm in the same situation. My pc crashed during firm ware update of my mobile phone.
