Re: 5800 FW V50.0.005 NAM `=?

Well, I know Nokia's "warranty" by now. Many of my friends, sent their phones to nokia for repairs under "warranty" and 90% of them get back replies saying "water damage" etc. Even for simple things like their PC ot a "fatal error" while updating firmware and hence the phone got bricked... nokia refused to repair it.

Thus, be informed that you are on your own anyways. I decided to change my code and update to v51. It worked... flawlessly. v51 is MUCH better. I dont feel that the phone is slow and buggy anymore. It is fast - the rotation is fixed, the browser is improved. (by the way, change the code back to the original once you are done...)

Also, when I changed the code I got a lot of goodies NOT INCLUDED IN USA CV. (like OviMusic, Quickoffice reader)

Thanks a LOT nokia for being a dou*** to US customers. Next time, either a linux phone or android. I gotta say thta I am SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED at nokia after 10 years of use.

Re: 5800 FW V50.0.005 NAM `=?

Hi,

I have just come across some GENIUSES who happened to have loaded the nokia C6 firmware onto a 5800 ?!?!!?! I dont know if this is against Nokia's terms and warranty (it doesnt involve changing product code and is fully reversible).

This pack includes ALL languages and also a tool to add/remove languages!!

Since I have already voided my warranty (see previous post .. and I dont care), I might try this after my finals. However, now it seems like:

1. Nokia C6 uses same version of Symbian OS as 5800 - BUT IT IS MUCH MORE STABLE. (So, is Nokia 5800's version a TRIAL ONE?? Are we the guinea pigs?)

2. Language packs CAN be added to firmware with some tools (~200 kb in size).

3. 0577454 USA CV wont get v50 .. in fact it wont get v40 anymore. New Ovi Maps needs v40 firmware.

Can we do something against this? It seems like unfair to me that after paying $$$ for that handset we get a bunch of trash by nokia.

@mods and anyone from Nokia reading this: If you are this incompetent, please support modding legally. (like it is allowed for the N900 and for all Android devices).

"Incompetent"... you took the word right out of my mouth

I saw the news, too, about C6 firmware on 5800. Hope it works on 0577454. All we need now is a more thorough English language guide, since the original post is in a language I don't understand...

Nokia's incompetence is matched by the board moderator. I hope he doesn't come about deleting posts and our efforts to help each other. Your company abandoned its users, offering no help for the last 5 months and even downgrading our firmware. I have a few posts deleted by the moderator that might have offered some constructive discussion for unfortunate 0577454 owners. Hope the discussion goes on here.

If Nokia doesn't like this kind of discussion, perhaps they can be more competent in their "official" support.

Thank you xtachx, let's keep us posted!!!

I'm guessing you aren't allowed to mention which product code you changed your 0577454 into?

Thanks

As sadiqbal said, i used 0574994. However you can use ANY RM-428 code. (the mod here is allergic to me telling how to get those codes - apparently he doesnt understand the difference between "knowing a product code" and "changing the code").

Anyways, the v51 update makes the phone very smooth and stabler but makes the external applications start a little slow. It also improves the battery consumption BY A LOT. Earlier my phone would last about 16-20 hours with moderate talking and little bit of wifi/edge (I turned 3G off to save battery.) 406 hours standby my a** i dont even get 24 hours standby. However, now my phone battery lasts 2-3 days without charging.

2: The original post about C6 firmware on 5800 is in ENGLISH :smileyhappy:. However, the very first C6 firmware had memory leakages (nokia's fault) and they issued an update. The update for RM-428 versions of this updated C6 firmware hasnt been released.

3. the product code doesnt really matter - you can flash your phone with any firmmware if you have the right tools. I mean this "product code" is just used by Nokia Software Updater to get the "right firmwware" for your phone. However, you can put ANY firmware on your phone - if you dont use NSU.

I dont think anyone is too dumb here to understand that putting the wrong firmware can brick your phone, so unless you want that, dont do it. And oh - contrary to what nokia "warranty" people wants you to believe, your phone IS NOT DEAD unless you erase the bootloader. If during a falsh something goes wrong, and you brick your phone, chances are bright that you might be able to "unbrick" it yourself. Search dailymobile.se and google on these. Educate yourself since these idiots @ "customer care" will never help you out.

If any of you have a query you can pm me, I will try my best to help.

Re: 5800 FW V50.0.005 NAM `=?

Updated to 51.2.007 for product code 0577454 with NSU today. Custom version date says 16-09-2010; interesting.

Would be nice if Nokia was more transparent about firmware update schedules after there's an update for the first group of product codes. Maybe it would keep some of the people on this forum from freaking out.
