Nokia Maps backlight turning off after a few seconds during navigation

It can be very annoying when you start navigation and the screen backlight goes off after a few seconds. This setting can be easily changed by doing the following.

When you have the Nokia Maps application running, goto Options>Tools>Settings>Navigation>Backlight.

The default backlight setting is "Default" which means it uses the phones backlight timeout settings. To overide this, set backlight setting to "Optimised" or "Always on". Try them out and see which suits you better.

I like "Optimised", because I think it is a good compromise between the backlight being always on and maximising your battery life. If you choose "Optimised" the screen does dims after a while but will brighten up for every instruction. Try them out for yourself.
