I've had the N82 since March and haven't seen any problems until I upgraded to the v20 firmware about 3 weeks ago. I'm finding my photos are disappearing randomly on the 2GB memory card and the only way to recover some of them is to use a file recovery program, although this only recovers the photos that haven't already been overwritten.

I've even used a 128MB scandisk micro SD card and the same thing is happening.

I've hard reset the phone and formatted both cards and after 4-5 days (taking 3-4 photos a day) the first few photos just disappear.

Anyone know how to solve this as I lost around 13 photos that didn't recover and I don't trust taking the N82 on hols without a seperate digi camera.

The only non standard apps I'm using are - Garmin XT and sportstracker.

Never seen this issue before. The only thing that does ring alarm bells is the garmin XT as it's has a number of weird issue's with the N82.

Same thing here! This is really annoing - let say disappointing. This happens with videos as well.

First, I thought it had to do with me closing the lense too fast after taking a picture, but after taking other pics and verifying that they acctually was saved, they too started to disappear.

I can`t find any order the pics get lost. It seems random. I also tried to switch between saving pics on the memory card and to the phone it self, but with the same result.

Nokia! We need a sollution to this or else the camera function is really with out value..

You could be right about the garmin XT software. I've only used the software once or twice before I went on my hols but I remember using garmin 3 or 4 times to help me find a few places and it did crash once.

I'm wondering if it'll be a good idea to keep Garmin XT on a seperate SD card to the one I'll be taking photos on. I'll try removing the software for a few weeks and see if my photos randomly disappear without it.

Has anyone else come across this problem with Garmin XT?

no, not Garmin.

I did a soft reset and formatted the card, just to see if it helped. However, before that I had this installed:

Some java midlet games (Star wars..)
Devicescape
Easy Wifi

I˙ll try to produce the bug again. First without any extra installed and then one at a time of the previous apps.

Thomaa is right. I've just had 2 photos go missing.

I hard reset the phone(key combination) and formatted the card and didn't have any apps installed. I took some photos about an hour ago and hit the gallery key a few times and exited the gallery and took another batch of photos about 10 mins ago and now when I've gone back into the gallery 2 photos from the first batch have gone missing. What the...

This is a bug.

Weird, AFAIK you are the first people to report it so it's not a widespeard bug.

I use my camera heavily and haven't lost any pics. It's been fine on v10, v11 and v20.

this just in..

With my empty phone, all my photos got lost after resetting (as told earlier). I ran around and shot about 15 pics (saved on card). Then I switched to video-mode and shot a 5min clip. When I opened the gallery no pics were left!!!

Going in through filemanager, I found something strange. The pics were in right place and I was able to open them one by one(!!). The video-folder, however, was completely corrupted. After the reset I shot only one clip, but in the folder I suddenly find 5 folders with (seamingly) random ASCII-names. No one is able to be opened. The video clip is there, among the rest of the **bleep**, and I am able to open it "manually".

Is there a serious bug in Gallery??

I wouldn't say it's a bug but more of a problem with your phone caused by something else. I recommend that you format your memory card and hard reset the phone, backing up anything you want to keep first.

Hard reset:

1. Switch off the phone.

2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button.

3. While holding these buttons, hold the power button for a second to switch on the phone.

4. Release when the phone shows the nokia hands logo or shows other signs of life like the language selection screen.

It may take a few attempts and very flexible fingers!

Right, finally found out it is definitely not the phone but the memory card. I replaced the standard 2GB card with an 8GB Veho memory card and I've had no problems with corrupt or missing photos. I've had Garmin XT running for a while with no problems.

According to other bulletin boards there's quite a few N82s that were sold with faulty 2GB cards (my 128MB SD card is also faulty). So, if you're getting any similar problems with your gallery or strange error messages then replace the 2GB card with a higher quality card and shame on Nokia for selling the phone with a **bleep**py SD card.

I think my daughter and I have the same problem with the memory card;
Recenty upgraded to N82

All OK until I added 77 tracks from I Tunes and used one of the tracks as my ringtone.

I know have the following problems and my daughter has exacty the same problems;
My phone freezes,
wont allow me to open gallery.
Sometimes allows to play music, sometimes freezes.
Once I was listening to music and my phone switched to the radio!
I have made random calls to people on my contact list without touching the phone.
I have to switch my phone to manual and add orange to recieve calls (going straight to answer phone and then alerting me that I have had a missed call)
Texting is sometimes very slow
Menuu bar freezes

I have already replaced the handset once and had restored my factory settings

I have only used a quarter of the memory capacity

I call orange nearly everyday with a new problem and have been told to hold down the red key for 5 seconds to exit properly out of programs. I have removed the memory card and it all works well but I have no music etc so whats the point!!

I was also advised to update software - this might help. Do I do this from the nokia site?

If you really have been patient and diligent in proving this point then there is no reason to look anywhere else. The problems in your memory card.

At a £5 for a 4GB memory card off Amazon Im not wasting my time on listening to orange.

You said that your N82 worked wth Garmin XT. It worked with the internal GPS or an external one?

After posting the above my SD card packed up completely.

Replaced and now all back to working fine......so far

I have a weird problem with my gallery, although my photos aren't disappearing but duplicating.... and when I delete one of these double images or videos, the one left won't open, when I try to open it the screen skips back to the gallery menu. But when I transfer the files to my computer they're not double and seem to be working ok.
Hope someone can help me

Knowing what I now know about the bad quality of the SD cards Nokia shipped with the N82 I would change the gallery to using the phone rather than the SD card and see if you still get the problems when the SD card is not involved at all.

ok im so angry with nokia..so so angry..i have taken a lot of photos and videos with this damn phone from my holidays and suddenly all dissaperead...the situation in the memory card is very funny for example when i put it in card reader in the images folders there are files of 4gb? and unknown type when the card is 2gb...ok where are my pictures when i paid so much money for this damn phone to use as a camera..really very dissapointed
