If the camera is left on for a while, the menu button will seize to function. The camera continues to function. The only way back to the main screen is to turn off the camera. However, the menu button still won't work. The only way to get everything back is to restart the phone.

This is since the Anna update.

Is this with/without Nokia Beta Labs N8 Camera Update installed?

this is without the Beta Labs Update. I didn't really wanted to install this update, as I use the N8 camera a lot and there are still a lot of problems with the beta

My first reaction would be to just install the camera beta. I have been using it and had no problems with it at all and its new user interface is a useful improvement.

That will give you a new installation of the camera app in a way that is less troublesome than resetting the phone or reloading the firmware. If the beta doesn't fix the problem or it causes you problems then you can always uninstall it and revert to those other more invasive  fix attempts.

ok, I will try the beta. How do Iuninstall the beta and install the original if this fails to fix the problem?

Just go to Menu > Settings > Application Manager > Installed apps > longpress > uninstall

well, I have tested the Camera update for over a week now. The first few days everything appeared ok.

However, the original problem reappeared 2 days ago. The first time after using the maps at the same time. Had to restart the phone to get back to normal.

Happened again yesterday, with only the camera running. When I checked, the camera had been on for about 2 hours. I can't really tell exactly when it happened, as this check was during a break in our walk - I hadn't checked before
