Best Codec?

Which codec do you think is the best?:smileywink:

1. DIVX,
2. MPEG4,
3. AVC/H.264.

I personally prefer H.264.

zzzzzzzz
I think the more new devices will come, the more the H.264 will dominate it all.

From other threads...

/discussions/board/message?board.id=imaging&message.id=13

Ok, here we go again:

THE LIST:

- ImToo 3GP encoder
- PSPVideo 9 (Use QVGA profile)
- AnyVideoConverter, there's a free version and a pro version you can work with the free version
- Super (as korngear said)
- Quicktime Pro
- RealProducer Plus (from real)
- Nero Platnium
- Roxio converter
- Xilisoft

Nokia tools:

- Nokia Multimedia player (Choose Save As...) and select the type of video (this is installed with PC Suite so you may already have this)
- Nokia Video Manager (very simple to use)
- Nokia Multimedia Converter (you need to register to forum Nokia to use)

There are many, many more converters, but these should get you started.

Re: Best Codec?

Super is very good in my opinion, just converted a load of videos on my 6120 Classic and they work perfectly.

Re: Best Codec?

Haha and.. thats really just really irritated me. ahh well

I use a host of apps for converting videos for my various handsets...

However the best converter has been:

Quicktime Pro - with my macbook

I have a program i use to make my own videos but its very messy, however i do get the best results.

Re: Best Codec?

I don't know about QUicktime pro in the Mac environment, but int he PC environment Quicktime Pro is very limited so I wouldn't recommend it.

Re: Best Codec?

quicktime pro can accept a great deal of plugins for new codecs. like most media players / transcoders the application is modular and without at least one add-on it cant even decode a native quicktime file. quicktime on the mac comes with a lot of codecs, as it is the local default media player, analogous to windows media player. you should be able to install new codecs in quicktime pro even on windows, though it might only come with a few apple specific ones. these apple specific codecs should include an h.264 codec, since this is what iTunes, iPod, iWhateverComesNext uses. this is also the default codec for the n-series phones when they record video, presumably this is the codec of choice.

i dont use quicktime pro to transcode myself - mostly because i am starting from DVD's and it is more efficient to go straight from dvd to h.264 by using the Handbrake application (born in BeOS, ported to MacOSX and it currently a command line app in Windows and Linux)
---
N95-1 ---> N97-NAM ---> N900 ---> E7-00 + N900 (I use them both)
(N95 was pretty good, N97 had potential but utterly failed to deliver, N900 is absurdly good. Those of you wondering, "should I try N900/Maemo/MeeGo"? The answer is a resounding YES)
