oh rite!... i kinda get it...

any idea how to make it QVGA on handbrake? or do u have to use something else?

320x240 is QVGA
640x480 is VGA

so the resolution isn't your problem, but baseline vs main might be. strange though, since my n95 plays videos with these settings...

i do have like 8 saved profiles in handbrake from when i tried to get the right settings all straightened out - might be that i flagged the wrong one as the working one? i'll have to test again and make sure i didnt give you bad settings - my powerbook takes a long time to encode though, so i won't be able to do it today.

No both of those are not going to work in Nokia devices.

You may try to get Super at www.erightsoft.com it's free and it can be set to baseline.

that can't be right - i have an h.264 video on my nokia n95 right now that was created in handbrake and works beautifully.

it is the disney animated movie Alladin, quicktime says this about the file:
Format: H.264 Decoder, 320 x 240, Millions
AAC, Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
FPS: 25
Data size: 211.86 MB
Data rate: 325.42 kbits/s
Duration: 0:01:30:19.6
Normal Size: 320 x 240 pixels

ffmpegX (you can get this here: http://ffmpegX.com/ ) says:
MP4, h264, yuv420p, 320x240, aac, 48000Hz, stereo

i'm trying an encode right now using the built-in iPod low-res settings. i'll let you know what i find.

ah yeah i didnt use ffmpegx because you cant encode straight from DVD, it has some copyright thing...

I would like to remind everybody that the discussion boards are an official Nokia website over which flies the Nokia flag.

We cannot permit any topic of discussion that strays into the murky world of copyright infringement, so please don't let this thread go down that route...

yeah - me too, but the moderator is right. kinda sketchy talking about ripping dvds.

pavid: if you want to continue this discussion in private, PM me and i'll give you my email address. i like to have some entertainment when my girlfriend and i drive 5.5 hours back and forth from her parents' house, and my n95 sits so pretty on my dashboard (i have a stand for using satnav in landscape mode quite nicely, which btw: RotateMe is essential if you want landscape satnav, since otherwise the screen blocks the gps receiver).

Re: Best Codec?

Hi,

About H264. The problem a lot of people are running into is that H264 has many different "flavours"

There are profiles
Baseline
Main

Then each profile has different levels, and also there are some "special" H264 versions (like the Sorensson h264).

So just because Quicktime says it's h264 it doesn't tell the whole story.

If it doesn't play then it's because it's unsupported, plain and simple.

Just re-encode with SUPER or other encoders into an H264 format that's supported. You'll live longer and be happier.

Try also to get some additional video player for your device like COREPLAYER, SMARTMOVIE, etc. so that you have some other video player to try to play the video and not just the Nokia supplied one.

640K Should be enough for everybody

Re: Best Codec?

i found a way how to use h.264 on n82. i just used the ipod low-res preset, and lowered the bit rate. but it is about 120mb for 22mins...

really good quality though :smileyhappy: when the 16gb cards come out ill be fine!!
