gps software

The GPS software ont he 6110 Navigator is excellent. Is it possible to have the same for the 6210?

My wife got the 6210 on my recommedation - I use the 6110 - but her's use Maps which also seems to incur a license fee plus the software is far less user frendly to that of the 6110 which is free.

I also downloaded maps to the 6210 and on a recent trip to Mexico found that it did not respond while being there. The error message reported no contact to server.

Re: gps software

You can try buying Route66 separately, if you prefer it over Nokia Maps:

Re: gps software

Are you from the US? were you roaming or using a local sim card? It contacts the server for the A-GPS connection via the phone's internet connection. If you didnt have roaming or were using a local sim card that would have been your problem. Her phone should have a complimentary 6 months free trial with it. The software does take a bit of getting used to. Strange though that it didnt respond while in Mexico. You should have still been able to use it in offline mode.

No - I am from South Africa, roaming was activated and working. Do you know if one could load other software on the 6210?

Re: gps software

Buy a bluetooth GPS receiver and download Nokia Maps onto your phone, You could even try Google Maps without the GPS but it wont be accurate

Re: gps software

You can get the Route 66 program for your wife's phone but it will cost a pretty penny to have, if you are with Vodacom in SA you could always try Vodafone Compass. Persnally I don't like it but it works well enough, again you pay for voice navigation but map updates are for free

Re: gps software

Thank you - now there is the first bit of practical advice.

I considered the 6210, but after this will stick to the 6110.

Re: gps software

Not a worry, happy to help. Just remember that your maps are at least 2 years old now and that there might be new roads since then but find out how much it will cost you to update, you should be able to do that throught the Route 66 software your received with your phone.
