I've been diabetic for most of a year now. I am appalled at how bad the tools are to help us self monitor. I am looking for a developer who would be interested in producing an application for a simple phones such as the Nokia 2720 (the one I have) it will help patients time and record blood sugar, carbohydrate counts, and calorie counts. The UI would need to be very simple but it would dominate the screen or needs to be very easily accessible (i.e. one button).
If you can help, or know someone who can help, please let me know

Hi esj172
I am sure that you have come across SiDiary Diabetic management here:http://www.sidiary.org/default.asp?id=146
As far as I am aware there is a Java version of the software included in package for use on mobile phones.
You are correct that if you have a Nokia Smartphone there is C-Diary available currently in Beta form:

I hadn't been aware of that particular application but it looks like overkill for me and it still didn't do what I needed.
My needs are real simple.
I need a 30 minute timer because one medication I take must be taken alone and no less than 30 minutes before eating or taking any other medication. Measuring blood sugar has two components. the fasting value and the meal readings. The meal readings consist of a pre-meal sample and then optionally one hour and mandatory two-hour readings. I should also record calories and carbohydrates per meal and ideally have a daily running sum visible somewhere on the display. Because I have a bad case of CRS (can't remember squat), time just close by and I never even notice that it's been one or two hours after a meal until it's for five hours after a meal. So, for me, cycle would be something like:
Take thyroid
start timer (one button push)
wait 30 minutes
take fasting blood sugar/first pre-meal
record value manually
start meal timer (two hour alarm or one hour plus two-hour)
when alarm goes off, record data
before next meal, start cycle again.
Obviously, it would be nice to have the ability to edit any days data or go back and enter data you couldn't because the phone was sitting on your desk instead of in your pocket or at the dinner table.
As I said before, this UI should be simple enough to work on almost any programmable phone like the 2720. In fact, looking at my display, I could the whole web to go soft menu button and apply it to the diabetes/timer needs. In fact, 90% of functionality embedded within my phone could be eliminated and I wouldn't miss it. Although, I do like the conversion tool which is really convenient and I also miss an easy access calculator.
thinking about this, at a bare minimum, if I had just the timing functions accessible as a top-level button or near top-level button, I'd be okay. I can always use a paper notebook to record the rest of my data.
