I'm currently using the ubiquitous "Best ScreenSnap" on my 5800XM. However, this only works properly as long as your screen is in portrait mode. Switch it to landscape mode and you only get part of the screen in the resulting screen capture, like this:



So, basically, I'm wondering if anyone has come across any other software to perform a screen capture on S60v5.

Didn't know about this app and was looking for one, so thanks for the message.  If anyone is looking for the link, it is: Best ScreenSnap.

I tried another freeware app Screenshot for Symbian yesterday, but on the 5800 the camera button which is the default, doesn't take a snapshot but invokes the camera.  The other hot-key choices require the keypad to be up which isn't a good option for this touch-screen phone.  Maybe when I get some time I'll play around with the source code & figure out how to make it work.

I can reproduce the issue you mentioned, so I sent their support an email about it.

"Screenshot for Symbian OS" is an application for S60v3 so some incompatibilities are to be expected on a S60v5 device such as the 5800XM.

Best ScreenSnap is a S60v5 application and therefore should work. FWIW, the S60v3 version of Best ScreenSnap exhibited the same problem on the N95 and N96. Another application for S60v3 required the "pencil" key which no longer exists on the N96 so I didn't get to try that one.

Here's a reply from their tech support, and following their advice does work around the issue for me:

"The current version  of ScreenSnap does not dynamically change screen resolution (we plan to add such a feature in future versions), so if you started it on the small screen, when you pass to the large one, the resolution is not updated and the pictures are taken at small screen size. You have to completely exit ScreenSnap by using "Exit" command in its Options menu and start it in the desired screen orientation to take pictures at its resolution."

That's brilliant - it solves the issue for me too. I suppose I should have asked them myself, it's just that I didn't expect any support for a piece of freeware like Best ScreenSnap.
