Since the latest software update to the N97 not sure of the version number but updated 03 2011 the  Car Menu application is not compatible with N97. It was problematic before the update now its impossible. Nokia do you have a software policy where everything works together. This service is appalling. Never never ever a nokia again.

Did you ever get HF21W in your CK-300 updated to v1.600?

Yes I got the kit updated to V1.6. but alas the moderator has moved us out of the limelight. There are so many confusing messages about Nokia products you simply don know if you are coming or going.

I think there is something everybody should know..

Perhaps I am dumb or stupid or perhaps Nokia dont know how to cater for users correctly, there software sometimes doesn't gell well together and they should invest in more testing so that it will.

I must admit I had a revelation. My N97 works both in landscape and in portrait modes previously I had installed the car menu landscape version in portrait mode. When I reinstalled the landsacape version in portrait mode after the N97 phone software latest update I got the message application was incompatible with the phone, it paired with the Nokia CK300 but the menu never appeared on the phone.

The revelation reinstall the landscape version when the phone is in landscape mode. So

Ok I did this I still got the 'incompatible with phone continue anyway' message and the app was installed. I thought well no change there then. I have this CK300 which is useless, I have a phone with navigation that I cant integrate into  my car what a lot of time and effort it's taken me 16 months to get to this point should I be peeved you betchar I should.

So I am off down the road in my car with my phone on the passengers seat I look down and the car menu screen is displayed on the phone. So I put it in its cradle and try to play music which it could never do before it would corrupt the play list and and other enumerable stuff would stop me from getting it working. But hey MUSIC PLAYED wow and I had selected random tracks and guess what tune played ITS A KIND OF MAGIC brilliant .

So remember install the landscape version of Car Menu with the phone in Landscape mode and vice versa for the portrait version

Just to add that after reading that CarMenu worked with N8, I tried CarMenu 5.0Beta for portrait devices which didn't want to launch un-installed and replaced with one for landscape devices that does. I similarly thought  that you could choose mode upon installation to be either one or the other (although not change automatically), not that one wouldn't work!

No you've not quite got it. You cant choose the orientation of the Car Menu software You either install the landscape version or the portrait version on a N97. But the important point when installing the Car Menu is that you have to hold the N97 phone in the same orientation as the software you are installing when you install it. You must hold the phone in landscape mode to install the landscape version. You must hold the phone in portrait mode  when installing the Car Menu portrait version. weird but hey I've used it 5 times in the car since doing that and it's work perfectly evertime. figers crossed.
