Re: Antivirus for 5800

None as the 5800 doesn't need it. There are no viruses that can infect that model.

You cannot pick viruses up whilst general web browsing.

All you need to protect your phone is common sense.  Don't accept bluetooth messages from strangers and don't install cracked software or software from unknown sources.

Re: Antivirus for 6300

None is needed.

Nothing can be installed on a java-based S40 phone without your intervention, so as long as you use your phone responsibly, not accepting and installing any old app that's sent to you by MMS or bluetooth and not downloading things from dodgy warez sites, there's no way anything can infect your phone.

Re: Antivirus for 5800

Exactly.

The sooner people realize that advertisements for antivirus packages on S60 phones are nothing more than scaremongering, the better. All an antivirus is going to do is slow your phone down and render it unstable while offering a "solution" to a problem that doesn't exist.

Re: Antivirus for 5800

The phone has a different operating system and as such is not susceptable to most viruses.

Re: Antivirus for 5800

Exactly. Almost all of the exploits out there in the wild target Internet Explorer on MS-Windows. The 5800 runs neither and is therefore not vulnerable to them.

By its very architecture, SymbianOS will not let applications install themselves without prompting the user. From that point onwards, they have to be signed in order to perform operations like send messages, access the internet and make calls. No signing authority is going to allow malware to be signed, and if a user is prompted to install an unsigned application while browsing the internet then they deserve what they get.

Common sense is the best antivirus out there for SymbianOS.

Re: Antivirus for 5800

They will sell antivirus applications for smartphones as long as there are people gullible enough to believe that they need it.

I don't know how well locked down WinMo devices are. Personally, I don't trust anything from Microsoft with their track record.

Re: Antivirus for 5800

I feel like repeating everyone else...

Asking for a recommended antivirus program for a Symbian phone is like asking the same question for Linux - the simple answer is "Don't bother - there are no real viruses."

In other words - IT'S NOT WINDOWS!!!

P.S. If you install one of these antivirus suites and your phone messes up, you will have a lot of problems getting it working again.

Re: Antivirus for 5800

ahaa..New post from nokia-5800-touchscreen.com said kaspersky mobile security function beyond just an anti virus. One of the function to protect your phone from spam and untrusted caller which is will block the same number if they try to call next time. This is done by grouping the no under black list number.

So...is it nice? Sensei..Or wasted.

Re: Antivirus for 5800

It's still a waste of money.

If you want a blacklist application, that kind of thing still exists as a standalone without the antivirus gunk that will slow your phone down. It's probably cheaper as well.

Re: Antivirus for 5800

Hi,

You all are wrong in this case. series 60 phones can be attacked by virus. the OS of all S60 phone are made using the language carbide C++ which can be easily hacked. The hackers just create some patches which just patches the OS and create difference in the working of the OS. so better be on safer side.

never accept any data from other bluetooth enabled data.

and i also agree with your cracked software matter too. never do use.

for safety just log into nokia site for third party app which is tested by nokia

if my post helped u out, please click the Star next to it to add some KUDOS to my name

Thanks and Regards,
Sherry.

Re: Antivirus for 5800

Please provide a reference to a virus for S60.

Reminder: a virus, by definition, is something that can infect your device with no action on your behalf. So, something that the user has to install, whether it arrives by bluetooth, MMS, e-mail or whatever, is NOT a virus. Maybe it's a Trojan horse or a worm, but it's not a virus.
