Nokia has Mac support, so that doesn't really stand.
Though security flaws in Outlook have been relatively low. Thunderbird has had plenty of security flaws too, just less publicity.

It is extraordinary, given present day market conditions, that I can't access Nokia software using a Mac Intel computer. I was unaware of this when I bought my 6230 'phone, assuming - reasonably I think - that all major mobile producers would now be providing Mac compatible software. Had I known that Nokia didn't, I would have bought a different company' product. even though I consider Nokia's to be excellent 'phones.
What is so difficult about developing Mac compatible software? After all, I am told that Linux users can access it. Why not Mac? I assume that there is no commercial reason, such as a tie-up with Microsoft?
So let's ask Nokia - how about it? I don't want to buy a competitor's mobile 'phone, but I will if Nokia don't solve this problem. I think many Mac users are in this position, and they are increasing in numbers. It's not just Stephen Fry that uses Mac !

The existing PC Suite doesn't run on a Mac, but it's old software designed for Windows (at a push it can work on linux I guess with Wine but that's not a native solution). That doesn't mean you can't hook up a Nokia with a Mac and do the key things PC Suite would provide anyway.
You can use Apple's iSync on a Mac to sync contacts and calendar on Nokia phones, and there is already Nokia software to do file transfers. There are other things possibly in the works. They are committed to supporting Mac users from what I'm aware of. http://europe.nokia.com/mac
Speaking of other manufacturers, my experience of certain big names has been they have very little software even on Windows PCs, or make you pay for it! Windows Mobile excepted of course, as it's a platform with plenty of support in Windows.

I was looking for a nokia movile phone but i cant to buy it, It's pity for nokia phones to be microsoft phones, linux users cant to access for nokia phones simply for no syncing software, bearing in mind that syncing is the most important feature of the new phones, lynux users have to look for sony, ericson phones!

Another petitioner from Australia ............
I like my nokia E71 but really need it to sync with thunderbird directly. I have tried so many online servers to sync E71 but my entries get messed up with daylight saving changes.
I would really like to see PC suite support for Thunderbird contacts/cals and notes....
Thanks,
Bhrugu

A very good petition for pc suite thunderbird/lightning support. In the end it is people who are using the phones, not the companies. And more common people are finding their way to smartphones and their use in everyday life. So this is also a marketing issue, because in private people are using quite a lot firefox-thunderbird style solutions. It has been recently in newpaper articles that nokia has problems with selling smartphones. I love my e71, but if they in nokia

This thread is over 2 years old now, so it's pretty obvious that Nokia are not a bit interested in user feed-back - they haven't even responded. But just in case - I also support this petition for my new E63.
Thanks

I just realised today that there's no way to synk my new e71 with my thunderbird mail :-(
And since it's easier for med to change phone than to change email client I'd probably go for another phone.

I would like to add my support.
Please Nokia can you support Mozilla's Thunderbird and Lightning.
Please can you provide a response detailing Nokia's position on the matter.
I have enjoyed all my Nokia phones however, this issue is likely to be a deal breaker.
