Yet another Data Thread - 3220

[ Edited ]
Hi,

I have gon and purchased a DKU-5 cable from my wifes Nokia 3220 from Orange.
I have done the recomended install by installing software (Nokia suite) then installing the DKU-5 Driver from disk then connecting the phone, I unfortunately don't get a connection and one time I got an error code (0x8004360a) but can't find any info on this.
I haven't yet tried Switching the PC off - connecting the cable - connect the phone - switch the PC on yet but surely this isn't the way it needs to be done?

Any further info or suggestions would be appreciated

EDIT:
Forgot to add that according to the phone manual I should go to - Menu -> Settings-> connectivity -> Packet Data -> Packet Data Connection this however isn't in this phone I can get to connectivity but only have an option for GPRS not Packet Data.

Re: Yet another Data Thread - 3220

ok,

So I decided to try with my PC which already had all the software as I have a N70, but all I did was install the drivers. An hey presto it's working.
But why wouldn't it work on my missus PC?

Re: Yet another Data Thread - 3220

could be anything. but you have highlighted the fact that the first computer is the faulty component.

you could try updating windows manually, disabling your security software etc and try to reinstall pc suite to it.

Dude,

Not to judge your intellegents but you saying the 1st PC is Faulty, I think not, I have put it down to the way it was installed, as this is a 3rd party cable the process should be as folows:
Install Nokia Suite first,
Then Install the Driver supplied for the cable,
then plug in the cable and Windows will want to do it's thing,
go through the process of windows found new hardware,
Then goto device manager and look for USB COM device and update driver pointing it to the file on the CD or where ever the driver is located,
Goto Nokia Suite and select
then only and only the goto manage Connections and select Serial cable (DKU-5, CA42)
then and only then connect the phone and and press Get Connected.

That worked for me so hopefully it will for you as well.

Re: Yet another Data Thread - 3220

I thought you're always supposed to install the DKU-5 driver first and then the PC Suite, at least that's what it says in the PC Suite download Flash thingy..?

So maybe you could uninstall the Suite and the driver and try again but this time install the driver first.

Re: Yet another Data Thread - 3220

Suppose it's worth a try.
It would be annoying having to always have it on my PC especial;ly if I needed to use my phone connection.

Will try and post back

Hi,

It is known fact that 3rd party cables and drivers does not work. DKU-5 cable itself includes some software that converts phone messages into PC messages and vice versa. In 3rd party cables this SW cannot be same than in Nokia genuine cable --> problems!
What you should do is to buy genuine Nokia CA-42 cable. It will most probably cost some more than fake cable but it will most probably work much better.

Re: Yet another Data Thread - 3220

If that's the case then why does it work on my PC and all I did was install the driver then insert the cable, manually install the driver again and then pluigged the phone in?

Re: Yet another Data Thread - 3220

to be honest it doesnt really matter, you have a third party cable and the DKU-5 driver was never designed to work with your cable. so, it might work on one pc but not on the other.

basically, either use the nokia cable or install the driver that came with your cable.

Re: Yet another Data Thread - 3220

so the problem is what?

you have a non nokia cable that comes with a driver that doesnt work on this pc.

patronising is one thing, not giving the complete picture is another...

Jeez,

I'm feeling attacked here, I just came for some friendly advice.
I see you have over 1350 posts to your name seraphim, but friendly advice is always appreciated and I realy didn't like your tone.

So back on topic -

1. I Have a 3rd party cable that came with a driver CD
2. tried the install on my wifes PC (100% working order)
3. PC Suite did not pickup the phone
4. Uninstaller and re-installed drivers and software
5. still no go

6 Plugged the cable into my PC (Already loaded with PC Suite and works with my N70 all original Nokia equipment and software)
7. Installed DKU-5 cable drivers - plugged in cable - manually selected driver again and installed
8. plugged in phone (Nokia 3220 - nothing special there)
9. Hey Presto, all working there

May as well close this thread please as I have decided that if anything needs to be done on the phones we will use my PC

Re: Yet another Data Thread - 3220

did the same cable work for both phones?

from the picture you have painted here it looks like there is a problem on at least one of your computers. there has been a thread more or less with the same problem as yours, it was solved by reinstalling windows.

Re: Yet another Data Thread - 3220

The cable (DKU-5) is only for the Nokia 3220, I have my Nokia N70 with it's own cable.

Indeed- My wifes PC seems to not like the phone as I can use my cable and my phone fine on her PC.
A Re-install or Window is always a last resort and I won't go that route just for this stupid little cable, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
I'll continue using my PC as the communication PC
