I'm another one running Windows XP in a VirtualBox virtual machine under Linux only for PC Suite (and printing but I can easily change printer).
I use Ubuntu and Vista but much prefer Ubuntu. I only use Vista for PC suite and connection to my employers citrix server. I use Virtual box but that's still having windows (and a windows licence more importantly). Still, we can only hope...

hello out there,
I'm a newbie to linux using openSUSE, but using NOKIA phones since 1995. It is on time that NOKIA is going to provide the PC-Suite and updater software for LINUX !!!
I don't understand why a world concern like NOKIA is still sleeping and doesn't see that LINUX is not a OS-niche!
Hope there would be soon a solution for LINUX too and not only for MAC-Users!

Defo.
Need Linux software.
Didn't realise Nokia would force me to use windows.... It's even got Windows Messenger on the phone - yuk! - which I don't seem to be able to delete. Don't like being locked into software I don't like, but I like the phone.
Fairplay for starting the topic.![]()

Here's yet another plea for Nokia to release a Linux "pc-suite". I have spent two evenings now trying to get something useful from the phone, all I can get is modelinfo etc. I will not, repeat not buy a copy of windows, I will rather trade my phone to something I can use. Too bad, since the E66 is a nice phone.

THIS GOTTA COME!
The only reason I use Windows is for transfer my phone-info, now into my new.
And after that I have finished upgrading my software, via VirtualBox and some old XP laying around, I was **bleep** about that GREADY, Sucker, Bill Gates, for trying 2 be nice now.
What a **bleep** product, REBOOT should be the name!
After years of suffering his spell I converted completely, when ubuntu came w support for my usb-3G-modem. Since then I can have some benefit from my hardware ![]()
The best "dugnad" - Norwegian for colatteral? - we have on the tech-front on earth. Even Johan Andressen, "tobacco-prince", who seems like cool guy doing a lot of social entrepreneurship, meant this Bill have been like a break on tech-development.
Mark Shuttlewort has done a good job making linux almost just as userfriendly in UI as Windows - but the performance!!!! And for free - Nice Guy ![]()
If not I buy another phone next time. And I hope it comes w a mini usb-charger. ppl we are like sheep - **bleep**ting in our own bed - no other place for **bleep** than here on earth! How many charger do we need???
future IS now

Nokia business is hardware manufacturing. PC Suite and OVi suite as well as OVi services and Nokia Music are just enablers of new uses of the hardware as well as to keep phones users hooked into the brand.
They could really release their Ovi suite source code as open and under an appropriate open source licence. Call that a community edition.
Such move will gather thousands of developers, either individual or Linux distros to port the source code to Linux and others. It also will save them a lot of developer money.
The community edition shall have their own governing board and engineering comittee. Support on the software shall come from whoever interested into doing it. Again, this will spare a lot of money to Nokia.
As for intellectual property in some sensitive technologies, nothing that NVidia or ATI had not solved: release pre-compiled modules on a open-source hull.
They just need an exec with balls to overturn their own bellybutton vision of the business.

I want to add my voice to the call for a Linux version of the PC suite.
Apple are too expensive for me and many of the people that come to me for help.
Microsoft have finally shown their true colours in their present attempt to return to a new OS every two-ish years.
Over the last few months my friends are coming to me to install Ubuntu on their machines and teach them how to get it working. And all bar one is a Nokia customer.
The statistics show ubuntu responsible for more than 1% of web searches from the desktop; it is a growing operating system and Nokia really should wake up and support their customers ... or my next phone is a Nexus 1.

Me too; the only reason i created an account here is to tell you guys at Nokia: I WANT TO HAVE PC SUITE FOR LINUX.
Seriously, i just bought a N900 wich is basicaly debian, and now i have to find i cannot sync my calendar and stuff. Well even the USB Mass Media is not working for me under Ubuntu 9.10.
I have to say i am really disappointed regarding to N900 and syncing/connecting to Linux....

Ditto!
As Nokia are making big noises about open-source, it's about time that they supported the open source desktop as well.
My windows 7 RC is going to stop working at all in the near future, and it will take an awful lot of Bill Gates croonies to get me to pay anymore money to them!
It's also time to replace my E90 soon, and I won't be replacing it with the N900 if it requires Windows!!!!!
Duncan.

Why does Nokia mark this discussion as 'Solved'? Is it really not willing to do anything about the lack of service?
As I am not that satisfied with my N73, this 'discussion' in which Nokia fails to participate, makes a decision to purchase another Nokia in the future highly unlikely.

As far as I am concerned, this discussion will be solved when Nokia will provide "PC Suite" for my Linux laptop. Not before. However, for my next phone, I could consider another brand if this software or equivalent is not available for Linux.

man, this really sucks
i buy new nokia to find out that there is no linux support for pc suite. what the hell? i had to dig out my old pc with stupid windows xp
i should have just bought android or something

You could try Series60-Remote for your last two points (Text Message Sender and Contacts Editor). All S60 mobile phones (including the Nokia N91
) should work with this software.

I have bought Nokia 2700 classic recently. We really need linux supporting for Nokia PC Suite
11-Nov-2010 11:06 PM
Why it is saying SOLVED when I can't find Linux support from anywhere??
We definately need Linux support otherwise there' s not ohter option than vote with our wallets and start to support other manufacturers. Sad but true.
