Re: Problem to connect 6101 to pc!!!

Hi,

You may have some conflict with your PC's COM ports. You can also change the COM port manually:
1. Connect your phone via CA-42.
2. Go to 'Control Panel' and click 'System'.
3. Select 'Hardware' and press the button 'Device Manager'.
4. Open 'Modems' and double-click 'Nokia CA-42 GSM USB Modem'
5. Select 'Advanced' and press button 'Advanced Port Settings..'.
6. Change the COM port to e.g. COM30 and press OK.
7. Remove cable from your phone and put it back....
(If you open the Nokia connection manager, it should show that COM30 is used)
-> Does your phones working now?

Re: Problem to connect 6101 to pc!!!

ashman23,

That littel earphone icon should not be visible if you connect CA-42 cable. Earphone icon should be showed only when you connect handsfree to your phone and if you connect cable, no icon should be displayed.

I can think of these cases:
1. The cable you are using is not Nokia manufactured cable and it is not 100% compatible with your phone
2. connector on either phone or cable has been damaged and connection metals are facing each other wrong
3. software on phone is faulty

First you should check your cable and make sure that it is genuine Nokia cable. I know that it is more expensive than cables from other manufactures but they work better.

Re: Problem to connect 6101 to pc!!!

It's not genuine Nokia, and I think this is one of those times where it pays to buy a genuine accessory. I got it off ebay from Thailand. I'll go to a dealer and get them to try out the phone with a genuine cable and go from there. It's just been so frustrating because it has worked sometimes.
Thnaks for the advice.

Re: Problem to connect 6101 to pc!!!

hi everyone,
I seem to be having the exact same problem only i dont even get a "no connection" message on my phone. when I check-up the settings (CA-42 on COM6) there is this green bar which indicates activity and it also shows how many packets have been sent and recieved. yet, i just cant seem to transfer stuff from my phone. this question may sound silly, but just to cover all arenas, it is important to have the internet running when trying to transfer? i use a wireless adapter and cant plug the usb data cable while using the former (yes, its an old, old comp). i tried the battery suggestion but to no avail. also, how do i know when my phone does recognize the connection?
hope to hear from ya'll asap.
ciao

Re: Problem to connect 6101 to pc!!!

vorcus,

There is definitely something wrong on your computer if you get network settings and network activity values (packets transferred). Can you please give step-by-step instructions of what you have done this far?

no modem shows Re: Problem to connect 6101 to pc!!!

Hi, I have a similar but somewhat different problem:

- I try to connect the 6101 with Nokia-CA-42 cable to my Windows 2000 notebook.
- The Connectivity Suite (v.6.81.13.0) does recognize the cable and phonebook transfer works
- However, no Internet modem is installed.
- The device manager does not show any additional "Wireless..." device nor any additional modem. No device is listed with a question mark or red cross.

I tried an uninstall and reinstall, but nothing works.

Can I force an install of the modem?

Thanks!

Re: no modem shows Re: Problem to connect 6101 to pc!!!

Thanks for your quick reply!

Yes I tried that but no success. When installing, the driver wants me to select a COM port, however no port is listed at all. In the connectivity suite, the cable is attached to com port COM6 (no alternative port listed).

Strange?

Re: no modem shows Re: Problem to connect 6101 to pc!!!

stani,

Open Nokia Connection Manager (Manage Connections) and clear checkbox "Serial cable". After this try to re-install modem. This time you should be able to see COM ports.
Remember to put checkmark to Connection Manager checkbox when you want to use PC Suite.

Re: no modem shows Re: Problem to connect 6101 to pc!!!

Thanks very much migget!

With your method, i succeeded in installing the separate modem driver file. I was not prompted for a COM port.

There are still problems, though: When I select "connect to the internet" via PC Suite, it says "connecting" and then "could not establish connection" (the messages are translations, I use a Japanese version). The troubleshooter of the help file says something about bluetooth, but this does not apply.

If I check the modem settings in the OneTOuchAccess for Internet panel, the "Nokia 6101_6102 Cable" shows up. I selected my provider (T-mobile Germany) in the next screen.

When checking the Device manager of Windows 2000, a Nokia modem shows up as above. In the "check" (?) tab (3rd tab), a logfile can be called up. This file shows as last entry: "Device could not be opened because of error 0000002".

In the Device manager, no "Wireless..." entry shows up.

What to do?

Re: no modem shows Re: Problem to connect 6101 to pc!!!

Hi,

Sounds like there is a bigger problem behind this modem problem. If everything is OK in your computer, modem for your phone should be installed automatically, so you do not need to install it manually.

You can try this:
1. Connect phone using cable
2. Uninstall modem
3. Remove cable and uninstall Nokia PC Suite, PC Connectivity Solution and Nokia Connectivity cable drivers.
4. Reboot computer
5. Install PC Suite 6.81.13 again.

Does this help?

Re: Red question mark on the internet connection....

I just got my n800 yesterday and have the same problem. Downloaded the new software, manually input my IP address...tried everything. Phone support was useless. They said it was a software problem and to return it or send it for repair. What did you ultimately do?
