Possible bug in PC Suite 6.83.14.1 with N95

I've spotted some funny behaviour in PC Suite 6.83.14.1 with my N95. If you open the File Manager and click the New Text Message button, the new text message window opens. Clicking the To button opens the Choose Recipients window. In this window some numbers from the phone contacts list do not appear. It seems that any number set as a default in the phone's contact list* does not appear in the Choose Recipients window list. Contacts with just one number which is set as the default do not appear at all. Pressing Refresh doesn't appear to help. Editing a contact on the phone and removing the default number, then pressing Refresh, causes it to appear in the list. Maybe I've missed something but I am sure this is not expected behaviour.

* e.g. in the phone contacts list, open the contact, go to Options|Defaults and set a default Phone Number

[ Edited ]
There are plenty of bugs with 6.83.14.1 contacts management.
Chaging an email location from General to Business in the manager and refreshing doesn't update the name of the detail from Email to Email (Business) on the phone. Very annoying as all my Outlook imported fields are under the same general headings...

Has anyone any fixes/workarounds?

Right. Had a play and realise that wasn't making myself clear too.
Problem:
The import from Outlook put all my Email addresses under the name of 'E-mail' in the phone and sometimes all mobile numbers under 'Mobile'.
The contacts manager would only show one item under each heading even tho there were more than one in each field.
Solution:
Cutting out the visible entry from a doubled up field in the manager and pasting in a field on a different tab would, on return, show the 2nd entry in the original field.
Saving and updating now did not write the originally double filled field to the phone.
Cutting the 2nd entry to a new tab and then copying it back however solved the issue and all is now ok...
just I have loads of contacts...

Is there an Outlook field to Nokia N95 field mapping editor for PC suite? that would have solved my issues!

Re: Possible bug in PC Suite 6.83.14.1 with N95

Did you get a solution to this problem?

I am also experiencing a loss of data in the following situation:

Nokia N95 (v11 and v12 both exhibit)
Microsoft Windows XP, Build 2600, Service Pack 2
Nokia PC Suite: 6.84.10.3
Connectivity Cable Drivers: 6.84.4.0
PC Connectivity Solution: 7.22.7.1
Microsoft Outlook: 11.0 Build 8118

1) Contacts have more than one email address in Outlook. First complete sync to an empty phone puts multiple emails in the phone contact but all are labelled as "Email".

2) Any subsequent change on Outlook will change the contact record on the phone to have only one Email field which will contain "E-mail 3" from Outlook if it exists or if empty, "E-mail 2" or if that is empty "E-mail".

3) Any subsequent change to the phone contact will then overwrite all the email fields in the Outlook record by blanking "E-mail 2" and "E-mail 3" and putting whatever ended up in the "Email" field into "E-mail".

This has caused me some grief as you can imagine! I only discovered this behaviour when I emailed someone and it went to an old email address they don't check very often which I had in their "E-mail 3" field. And their other email addresses were gone, **bleep**!

So I did some more tests and discovered that if you add "E-mail(home)" and "E-mail(business)" detail to a phone contact then the mapping works with "E-mail" -> "E-mail", "E-mail(business)" -> "E-mail 2" and "E-mail(home)" -> "E-mail 3". BUT the two extra email fields DO NOT get created during the initial or any subsequent Outlook sync.

So, PC Suite needs to be fixed to create the extra email fields in the phone contact record as required (when the Outlook client has them). Obviously I don't wnat to go and add extra detail to every phone contact and by the way I've still lost all those other email addresses where I've amended the contact on the phone...

Anyone listening in Nokia?

Nokia has launched PC Suite 6.84. Have you tried if these problems are fixed on that release?

Re: Possible bug in PC Suite 6.83.14.1 with N95

Let's hope that somebody has fixed it. Just synced up my 3400 contacts!

Why does Nokia not publish a PCSync - Outlook field mapping paper so that we can avoid these issues or at least we are aware of any sync limitations?

Does anyone from the development team listen in to these boards?

Re: Possible bug in PC Suite 6.83.14.1 with N95

It appears that it has not been fixed (yet)!

My new E71, recently synced up with Outlook 2007 using PCSync v7 has various contacts with two or three emails on the phone. They are all showing the same field name, not email1, email2, email3.

I will check an phone edit/sync to Outlook and report back.

Cheers

Re: Possible bug in PC Suite 6.83.14.1 with N95

I am using version PC Sync 7.0.8.2 with Outlook 2003 without any problems now.

Even though the email fields all have the same label "Email" on the N95 they are correctly synched with the Email, Email 2, Email 3 fields in Outlook and can be edited etc without any problems.

Can't comment on Outlook 2007 but I wouldn't have thought that would make a difference...

Hi bandolier,

Are you sure this is happening, kindly check again. Click the contact on Outlook 2007(After sync), at right handside of the outlook, you can view the contact displayed with Name, number and emails. If you look in Internet (which is under Full name, Company, job title file as) e-mail, there it will show one mail address, furhter scroll down email, email1, email2 etc, you can see all the email addresses(3 only) in Outlook 2007. Is it what your are looking for?

Just to confirm that emails DO sync up correctly despite the same heading.

The underlying field references are obviously not the same. Noticed that when you add an email on the phone you get email, email (home) and email (business) which maps to email1, email2 and email3 in Outlook (2007).

Thanks
