I am quite surprised to see that there is a new release of PC Suite, as Nokia declared it dead a year or so ago.
I've been using PC Suite 7.1.62.1 for a while, and it has been pretty stable, for the most part, in my environment:
DESKTOP:
- Windows Vista Business 6.0.6002, Service Pack 2 Build 6002, 32 bit
MOBILE HANDSET:
- Nokia X6-00, 16 GB, s/w version 30.2.003
- Symbian S60 5th Edition
Given my nightmarish experiences with Ovi Suite (now "Nokia Suite" ... new name but the same old junky software), "pretty stable" is actually high praise given Nokia's tendency to throw buggy software out onto the market and fix it (slowly) as complaints mount.
So I've also downloaded PC Suite 7.1.180.46 but haven't yet had the guts to install it. If any one out there has been brave (or foolhardy) enough to have already installed PC Suite 7.1.180.46, I would greatly appreciate it if you share your experiences with it, e.g,
1) Is the new 7.1.180.46 version as stable as 7.1.62.1 ... especially when it comes to syncing with MS Outlook?
2) What are the new features that have been added in 7.1.180.46?
3) What bugs have been fixed in the new version?
4) Given your experience, would you recommend the upgrade or suggest that we stick with 7.1.62.1?
Thanks in advance for your help!
FUNNY NOTE: I spelled checked this post before posting it, and Nokia's spell checker did not find "Symbian" and asked if I had meant to type "Simian". Wow, I guess when Nokia moved to Windows, they wiped out all evidence of past operating systems .... :-)

Hello Farby,
Since this is an "official" Nokia discussion support site, I understand why you prefer to have Nokia software downloaded from official Nokia sites. However, in m_a_r_k's defense,
a) Nokia did not officially notify me there was a newer version of PC Suite available, I had to find it myself by doing a Google search. And yes, my PC Suite software is always on when my PC is running.
b) My Google search for a newer version of Nokia PC Suite found 7.1.180.46 available in several of the "usual" download sites such as CNET, Softpedia, Major Geeks, etc., but no links to the "official" Nokia site (besides, ironically, m_a_r_k's post).
c) When you go to the link you (Farby) provided, there is in fact a link to download PC Suite 7.1. However, surprisingly (or perhaps not so surprisingly, now that I think of it), there is NO announcement of a new version, and NO reference to a version number available beyond "7.1"
So rather than take users of Nokia software to task for informing other users of Nokia software that a new version is available, perhaps Nokia as a company should do a better job of indicating that a new version is available!
Anyway, Farby, if you could provide any of the answers to my questions about PC Suite release 7.1.180.46 (please see my earlier post), I think we'd all greatly appreciate it.
Cheers!

I was notified of the new version by CNET TechTracker. Nokia's Software Updater says there is no update.
I am concerned that this new version may not be compatible with my N97 (which would explain why it isn't found by Software Updater) and I'm also worried that I may have difficulty reinstalling the old version if I update and it isn't compatible.
I also want to know what has changed in the new version - perhaps Software Updater and Music Player will launch from it again?
I have Nokia Suite installed too but I prefer to use PC Suite most of the time.

Can confirm that both NSU and NMP are launching from it..

Well I took the plunge.
Music Player launches properly.
Software Updater still doesn't: clicking the icon just starts up a download of Software Updater itself (I let it download and install just in case it was an update but it just reinstalled the same old version I already had).
So far it looks like it works fine but I only installed it an hour or so ago. Other than fixing the bug that stopped Music Player launching I haven't noticed any changes.
It's still unclear why Software Updater didn't advise me about the new version, but I was surprised that it was updated at all because, as BHirabayashi mentioned, I thought PC Suite wasn't being supported any more.

Though as you mention the existing NSU never prompted of a NEW version.. When I launched NSU thru' PC Suite it prompted for the update.. and successfully installed v3.0.605

Yep - 3.0.605 is the version I already had. When I open NSU via PC Suite it just wants to download 3.0.605 again. Not a drama, though - I can open NSU without using PC Suite.

I'm having a problem with the Backup application, where I'm unable to uncheck any of the backup options, such as user files, contacts, calendar, settings, etc. Clicking on the checkboxes does not remove the checkmarks. My phone is the N9. I know it's not officially supported, but the Backup worked fine with the previous version of PC Suite.

I have successfully used the new version to backup my N97. I haven't had the problem you had with unchecking options. It did get stuck at about 70-something % the first time I tried but I've had that happen with previous versions too. I don't suppose you can get hold of a S60v5 phone, plug it in and see if you get the same problem as you do with the N9? That would perhaps help you work out if it's an incompatibility with the phone or a problem with your installation of PC Suite.
