how about gnokii?? I use it to connect a 6310i to my PC - running ubuntu 10.04, connects via Bluetooth, no idea how well it workswith other phones, I'm going to try my N70 next. gnokii.org, also see xgnokii, a nice front end - not as pleasing on the eye as nokia's PC suite but does the job as far as sending txt via PC. Anyway, just letting you know!

Hi Nokia Team,
Please try to create a PC Suite software for Ubuntu. We all are waiting it. It would inturn grow your business , so why you are waiting ? start creating now and give it within 2 or 3 months . Otherwise I will dump my 6 Nokia phones and will go for a new brand... Like this others would also dump Nokia ....Atleast create premium software and we are ready to buy it from you...Don't ever think Liunx as a free/good for nothing Operating system. We all are using it beacuse of the security and peformance it is providing . Peace of Mind ...
Thanks,

Lets keep this thread alive, there are traceable requests for Linux support on this site going back 6 years. I've posted on it in other threads before, and on Nokia Beta Labs. Standard response seems to be "We are only working on improving support for Mac".
Perhaps all Linux/Nokia users should post on Linux forums prompting people to contact Nokia or post here or Beta Labs.
Nokia user for over 10 years, Linux user for 8.

Nobody here seems to have mentioned the obvious:-
There are two GUI software packages offered in the "Ubuntu Software Centre" if you search for "Nokia": "xgnokii" and "wammu".
They both seem nice and useable to me, though I haven't (yet) got either working properly with my 6300, needing lots of model-specific settings which can only be done by text-editing the underlying configurations, but then Linux is always DIY.
No, neither PC-suite nor OVI work under WINE and using a mount of the "Data Storage Mode" on the phone gives access only to its expansion-card, not the contacts, SMS, etc.

Yes, come on Nokia, I thought you were outside the Ms Evil Empire!
At least some help for the gnokii and wammu development teams.
They seem to cope with only a few of your models.

I just tried another Ubuntu-offered package "KMobileTools"
It finds, identifies and connects to the 6300 with no problem.
Retrieves contacts in-tact, though only into "KAddressBook".
Obviously more suitable for Kubuntu, SuSE, Mandriva etc.
No SMS box-retrieval but good interface to send & keep SMS's from PC.
No notes or calendar retrieval or sync.

No wonder this got so many "views" !
From BBC news today:-
Nokia announces plans to form a "broad strategic partnership" with Microsoft in response to challenges from Google and Apple.
So, Nokia is succumbing to the "Evil Empire" ?
Will this thread ever be extended again?

I suppose our hopes just died. FFS

Well, sadly, Nokia will lose a lot more customers to Android. AFAIK none of the (awful) proprietorizations of Android have (yet) attempted to block its very nice connectivity. OTOH I've heard (maybe untrue) that Ms Phone has some non-standard connectivity protocols involving UUIDs to deliberately block open-platform sync attempts. Even Sony-Ericson, with its very closed attitude, has worked willingly with Linux developers to facilitate syncing.

For sync, try syncevolution, with internet sync server synchronization works really great and have also a bluetooth sync option (not working for mi 6210 navigator). For the other functions I just use direct card access or Nokuntu (of course I use my own creation ![]()
syncevolution is in the repositories of karmic and newer versions of Ubuntu (and other distributions I think have it too)
Nokuntu isn´t just an application, it´s a compendium of different applications and solutions for linux-nokia users, so please use the help forum of the nokuntu´s site in sourceforge, launchpad or facebook and share your experiences with all of us!!
Long life tu Open Source and GNU/Linux!!
