No authorisation message when trying to synchronis...

No authorisation message when trying to synchronise

I have been trying to synchornise my phone with my new laptop - I've tried both Bluetooth and Cable connection. When I click on synchronise it initialises but then I receive a message on my phone's screen saying "no authorisation". Can someone please tell me what I need to do to get this sorted as I have a lot of information on my phone that I need to get onto my new laptop.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Sorry - I forgot to include the details:

I'm using Windows XP Service Pack 2
The phone model is 5310 XpressMusic and the PC Suite version is 6.86.9.3
