Re: N97 iSync plug-in, when?

This is classic Nokia - A customer care rep called me yesterday to see if they had answered my logged question (re availability of V2 firmware) satisfactorily. When I explained that they had not answered me at all, and that this was most unsatisfactory, the guy said ok, and hung up. Brilliant.

I still don't have V2 - Any ideas why ? Is it because the UK is so backward that it hasn't arrived here yet ... ?

I can't wait for my contract to end so I can get a proper phone

Cool. That means we didn't really have to wait for v20 for the iSync to work?

Re: N97 iSync plug-in, when?

If that's true (not requiring v20 for iSync to work), are you saying that it's cool that Nokia made N97 owners wait for five months before releasing this plug-in. I don't think this is the case, I would suspect that although it's possible to use the iSync plug-in with firmware prior to v20 there is a good potential that any sync of PIM data will have errors. There has to be a reason why the third-party developers couldn't get an iSync plug-in to work and I don't think I would want to chance my PIM data on this.

I do not believe this. Please post a YouTube video that we can all see. The 3rd party plugin makers have ALL said that the firmware of the N97 is critically broken and the iSync Plugin development is impossible until it was repaired under the recently released firmware. You need to back this claim up with proof.

Make a Youtube video? You're having a laugh. :smileyvery-happy:

I didn't claim anything, I made a simple statement of fact. I downloaded the N97 iSync plug-in as soon as it became available, even though I will be waiting an eternity to download the V2.0 firmware. I just decided to take a chance and try syncing with the older version of the firmware and it worked. It has continued to work without problem for me.

I'm not saying that everyone should give it a go, I'm not saying it'll work for everybody; just that I did give it a go and it worked for me. Nothing more, nothing less.

Well, yeah, it would be uncool to be kept waiting 5 months unnecessarily. I suppose I was just thinking "cool" that it works for someone, hopefully others too. For me, I've upgraded to V20, so it doesn't really matter to me personally. :smileyhappy:

Re: N97 iSync plug-in, when?

@ zitseng - I wasn't having a go at you, apologies if it seemed that way. I was really having a go at Nokia, to my knowledge they have still not provided any information on why the iSync plug-in was delayed for so long. A bit of honesty from them would have gone a long way. I did even try to get the information through Nokia Customer Don't (sic) Care, at first they told me there was an iSync plug-in for the N97, after I pointed out that there actually wasn't one they then told me that my query had been passed to the appropriate department and that I would receive a phone call from them within 24 - 48 hours. Surprise, Surprise I still haven't received that phone call but even better than that two days after the iSync plug-in was released by Nokia the Customer Care people got back to me to tell me that in fact there wasn't a plug-in for the N97. Nokia Customer Care fail!

Re: N97 iSync plug-in, when?

froschy: no worries.

I've found Nokia support in Singapore to be a mixed bag. I think it might have something to do with where the support gets escalated to. In the past, when I had a query on Nokia Messaging, they were so pro-active to follow-up with email to make sure my "problem" was resolved, and perhaps due to their own internal communication hiccups, they even called me (yes voice call) twice, just to check if they had addressed my support request satisfactorily.

But in other cases, like my query on software update availability, I've found that they will respond (not quickly enough though), and they are extremely polite, and they will voluntarily pile heaps of information on you, but they completely fail to answer the question.
