Re: N97 & Nokia Multimedia Transfer

If i were to write my own iSync plugin for the n97 using the iSync plugin maker, anyone know what settings to use? (i.e. vCal settings, OMA formatting for events, etc) There are a lot of options to choose from. I'm trying to figure out if I can replicate the settings from the N95 iSync plugin, but I don't know if that will work. Please give me whatever advice you may have!

Re: N97 & Nokia Multimedia Transfer

I can confirm that the N97 is now recognised by Nokia Multimedia Transfer. There are no indications on the Nokia websites (including the compatibility list which still doesn't have the N97) but if you download and install the software and then update the profiles it will recognise the N97) Yay!!! :smileyhappy: Transferring my iTunes playlists and my iPhoto events now. Hopefully the iSync plug-in will be available soon and then I will be a happy camper!!! :smileywink:

Re: N97 & Nokia Multimedia Transfer

Yep, connect your N97 in Mass Storage mode. Ignore the pop-up that says the phone is not supported. Open Multi Media Transfer. Click Tools and Settings and then Check for Updates Now. It'll download two files quickly and then a set up screen appears asking what content from iTunes and then iPhoto you want to transfer.

iSync is still not working (so no Contacts or iCalendar syncing yet).

The "N97 not supported" pop-up still appears next time you connect your phone after you've downloaded the MMT update, but MMT will work. I guess we'll lose the pop-up once iSync is updated.

Re: N97 & Nokia Multimedia Transfer

If I connect in PC Suite Mode the message "N97 not supported" not appear, everything is working fine and synchronizing Favourites and Music and Videos, finally.

RIght. MMT works in PC Suite mode. I first connected in Mass Storage mode and got the downloaded update. Thereafter, connect in PC Suite mode and MMT is working sweetly now.

Re: N97 & Nokia Multimedia Transfer

twice my powerbook g4, 17". 1.67GHz, 10.4.11 has crashed whilst the phone is connected via usb and msync is running - this is after it has attempted to sync - it says complete, but when i check the phone, the safari bookmarks arent there, no iphoto

in the end i dragged and dropped my itunes library in and just selected 'scan for music' this would appear to be the safe bet.

Note: when it crashed, i had no response from the keyboard, touch pad - had to hold down the power button and restart - yikes!

im not touching nokia software on my mac for a while - sticking to isync, simply drag and drop.

Also, who has detailed info on what video codecs this phone can play? thus far, no h264 video has played, just mpg4, i need details so that i can compress accordingly.

cheers

Re: N97 & Nokia Multimedia Transfer

I've read a few places that h264 h265 aren't supported. A list of video and audio codecs that are supported is on the detailed specs page for the phone here:

Re: N97 & Nokia Multimedia Transfer

Yeah, the iSync plugin for the n97 seems to be taking a long time. Now that I can transfer my media I'm really enjoying the phone (no severe bugs other than the backlight/unlock one) but not being able to sync my conatcts, calendar, notes and to do is becoming very frustrating. It would help if Nokia released details about planned release dates for this type of software (that said they are much better than apple who try to hide the warts of their products and squash and internet dissent).

Re: N97 & Nokia Multimedia Transfer

Does anyone know when the isync update for N97 to sync with mac will be available? If not, is there any other way to sync my phone with my mac. Need to find an easy way to load all my contacts to my phone.

Thanks.

Re: N97 & Nokia Multimedia Transfer

I'm also waiting for an iSync plugin from Nokia. For those who cannot wait, I suppose there is always the option of purchasing a paid software: http://www.mactomster.de/isync-en/ (I've not tried the software before.)

Re: N97 & Nokia Multimedia Transfer

I got my N97 on Tuesday. It replacess a Treo Centro that one way and another spoke to my mac and google calander to synch contact and calander info. I am now pretty desperate to get this working on the N97. I have put the SD card out of my centro into the N97 and got music however I can't figure how to locate or play .avi movies that I have on the card.

Not a clue how to sync without the isync plug in, I do wish Nokia would get their fingure out on this! I also feel a bit done by having to pay another 100 quid a year to get turn by turn navigation! I have tomtom on my centro so I will look to see if I can get Symbian tomtom and use the maps I have already bought.

Re: N97 & Nokia Multimedia Transfer

I've found the best solution for me. Syncing with Google Contacts and Calendar using the mail for exchange is actually better than using iSync. This way, all my contacts and calendars get pushed to my N97 immediately when I update any contact info on the computer. Same goes for the other way around.

Re: N97 & Nokia Multimedia Transfer

Another solution is to use OVI...

Mac to OVI, then OVI to N97

Re: N97 & Nokia Multimedia Transfer

soony - would you be able to expand on your mac to ovi > ovi to n97 solution? Doesn't have to be step by step but some more details would be good as I can't figure out a way to transfer from mac to ovi.

Re: N97 & Nokia Multimedia Transfer

I just sucessfully synced the contacts and my calendar between my mac and n97 by:

mac->google (using spanning sync 15 day trial, hopefully that's enough time for the isync to come out)

and then google->n97 using mail for exchange (but dont support to-dos, and cant sync multiple calendar on google, which sucks since i have multiple categories for events in my ical).

At least that's a temp solution...

Re: N97 & Nokia Multimedia Transfer

OK a quick update on my N97 stuff. I have set up Google calendar sync through goosync, only problem I have is setting up and automated sync. I am using free version that does not sync addresses until I am happy it is working and stable.

I have managed to transfer my contacts to my private Gmail account from the Mac addresses application exported as vCards and am synchronising this through Vufone trial account that comes with the N97. This is not so clever as the email contacts that came in from googlemail have no names attached and so far can't find a quick way of editing the N97 address book.

AVI seems to be a terminal problem so will set about transcoding my vids, a PITA but you can't have everything immediately!

I am still dragging and dropping audio files between systems and getting the music app to find the, so far so good.

The Maps app on my ohone ( from Vodafone) coms with a 30 day navigation trial. I downloaded UK maps and once I figured out it only navigates from current position using search function for destination I have yried it a few times. Comapred with TomTom it is not as accurate in determining travel times and is a bit less clever in creating route, i have done a few around the block drives to point in the right direction, it also points you down very small or twisty roads that Tom Tom ignores as they are too slow.  haven't figured out if it can pre-plan or calculate trip times, if it can it is not obvious. The GPS reciever is pretty good considering I have been using it in-car.

I am stil looking for a simple app to keep passwords and log ins, any sugestions much appreciated!

I hope the iSync profile arrives soon as also hope someone will port and AVI player.
