After reinstalling my N73 firmware, my Syncs were working fine for about a week.
Then I started getting a warning in PCSync:
"PC Sync information.
PC Sync has encountered a problem and has terminated the synchronisation.
Possible Solution
Please check your Synchronisation settings and ensure your phone is in the Idle state, then restart the Synchronisation."
Now I dont know what couldve changed to affect this. Of course I tried syncing whilst thephone was 'idle' (on main screen, even with no apps in background)
Ive tried:
Any idea's?
Thanks,
DHD

Oh I also just tried setting new sync settings on pcSync, and I tried the "reinstall pc suite support to your phone" option on pcSuite, and it still failed afterwards..

Did you install any Office related updates on your PC? Did you change any of the settings related to your Outlook Profile? Have you recently switched Office versions (i.e. updating from 2003 to 2007, etc)? These are all reasons for PC Sync to stop working correctly. In my case, the Synchronisation profile on the N73 got messed up once, and I got kicked out with a SyncML-error, stating that the credentials used for Syncing weren't correct. I only ever resolved this by reinstalling the software.
I presume this is NOT what you want to do. So I'd advise you to check whether you've done any of the aforementioned updates/upgrades. If you did, where possible try to use System Restore on the PC to get it working again. You *could* also try to make a new Outlook Profile using the Mail applet in Control Panel. However, you MUST make a backup of your mail before doing this, as failing to do so will lead to a loss of data which is irreversible.

Thanks for the reply csteelooper.
I have not upgraded outlook (FYI Im using outlook 2003 SP3, without exchange) and my windows update does not show any updates for office of recent months.
The most significant change was the firmware update I mentioned, that also messed up my backup..
Re-installing the software could possibily (but unlikely) be asolution but as Ive already re-installed it (without uninstalling first) I doubt this will help.
Id rather take a measured approach to solving this rather than blanket replacements as then I wont know what the problem is and I will end up in a mess I could avoid.
I think the error message Im getting is key here, especially in comparison to yours, which was gave an obvious hint towards authentication ("credentials"). My error points somewhere erroneous and I have no idea what could have changed in that area.
As for system restore, Id rather avoid that too as it may **bleep**-up all the other things Ive changed since then.
I can see some AVG update check points, windows update, and, some DELL hardware driver installs...
I will try restores if no-one can give me any advice specific to the scenario & problems Ive described, so for now I'll wait and see what else is said.
cheers,

Well I thought about the effects re-installing PCS could have and I realised it wasnt a big deal, so I did it.. and no changes.
In-fact, after uninstall, reboot, re-install, reboot, my sync settings were as they were before uninstall - so PCS kept them. great.
I had previously tried re-configuring the sync stuff on the pc, and the phone, but I cant delete my phones pc suite sync settings..

Hi,
Why donot you switch off your phone and PC as well and switch on and try this.

I dont think the old last resort of 'reboot and cross your fingers' is going to work here ![]()
Ive already rebooted the pc and phone multiple times - is there a reason why you think this will work?
I really want to stick to proven problem solving techniques, as you can see I tried alot before posting here.
Thanks for the reply though!

Hi DHD,
The reason behind above solution from me was, even i had a problem with syncing my Nokia N 82 with Outlook. Say till last friday i was able to sync my device with Outlook 2003, but all of a sudden i tried to sync any device with PC SYnc of Nokia PC Suite, it gave error message. I didnt synched my device for more than three days, it didnot synced with any device.... I tried this for the entire day ... Alas no use all went vain
Restarting pc, phone, creating new error report etc., But after my work, i closed my pc and next day i tried to sync my device with Nokia PC Suite, it worked like charm... it synched well with Nokia E 71 tooo....

Ok,
What error message did you get?
Was it the same/similar to mine?
~Thanks for the suggestion, but I have rebooted my phone and pc many times ![]()

Hi,
I received following message ....
The mobile phone has not responded yet, do you wish to continue waiting?
So literally i have to wait for more than one day to make it work
it seems .... Now its working without any issues, but i had an issue with Sync.

Ah I see, yours seems to be related to device communication.
Take a look at the error message in my original post - the phone is seen and communicates with the pc, the snc starts, and even states as 'complete' but the warning message is concerned with sync details or phone readiness, and I have checked and confirmed both..
Someone on here must know of a way to trouble-shoot this, view useful logs, or reset stuff?
As previously stated, uninstalling didnt even help, and the sync settings were preserved!

I sorted it!
I saw this post earlier: /discussions/board/message?board.id=pcsuite&messag
I didnt see MMSync or other entries on my phone. I originally tried reinstalling pc suite support on my phone via PCS help menu (before I posted), and it always came back saying it was done, but it was too quick and seemed not to do anything.
Even after a re-install it still failed to do anything..
Anyway I saw references to PC suite cleaner (actually, cricfancy you have suggested this in the past!) and I decided to uninstall pc suite again, but this time run cleaner, as I said in my previous posts that PCS uninstall doesnt actually uninstall!
So, after uninstall, reboot, cleaning, reinstall, reboot, my pc started to detect the phone as if it were a new install (as it should) and PCS actually installed MMSync and the other needed apps onto my phone when it 'reinstalled support for pcs on my phone'!
As such my sync started working again (so it mustve failed when MMSync et al (thus Pc suite support on my phone) were removed from my phone somehow)
Its a shame it took all these posts, but Im glad I could sort it without taking extreme steps and never knowing what was wrong or how I actually fixed it!
I hope this helps others on this forum!
