Hi All,
I have a number of .sis application files, but I'm not sure how to install them on my N96 using a OSX on an Apple Mac
I've recently upgraded from a PC to a Mac OSX. When I had my PC, all I had to do was double click on the file using PC Suite and it would install. Unfortunately, PC Suite does not exist for the Mac.
Thanks in advance.

unfortunately using MAC you can not install applications to the phone the way you used to do it on your PC
... at least YET..
I suppose soon there will be fully functional "Mac
but untill now only part of PC Suite's applicatio
for installing apps you have on to your phone you
using file explorer locate the *.sis, *.sisx, *.jar, *. jad file on the device and open it

and there never will be. i'll talk about that after a brief discussion of how to install apps from a mac:
you DON'T NEED to install apps that way at all:
1. simply download the .SIS or .SISX file, then select the file (you know, click it once)
2. now click in your menu bar: [Finder -> Services -> Send file to bluetooth device].
3. a window will appear asking which bluetooth device to send it to... pick your nokia device (clearly).
4. and boom goes the dynamite. now, your nokia device will appear to have received a new text message.
5. on the standby screen (you know, the default idle screen) where it says "1 new message", click the left soft-key (to 'Show' the message)
6. Now you're looking at the Inbox, with the transferred file selected - click your 'select' button (middle of the d-pad, you know the default button you press for almost anything)
7. The installer will pop up asking if you want to install the app. i assume you do, so say yes.
that's it. every click and motion is covered in 7 steps. i could have stated this in 2 steps (transfer then open). there are a few point to note here that makes this better than PC suite (potentially):
a) you can transfer a LOT of files, then leave your computer alone and install them at your leisure (useful if you've got 3 or 4 apps you want to install for a trip you're taking, but you're heading out the door right now)
b) you can transfer ANY TYPE of file this way, not just apps. transfer a PDF, a Movie, and Image - whatever you want. it shows up as a text message but without any of the limitations inherent to text messages in your network (clearly, because the file doesn't actually get sent over your mobile operator's network)
c) you don't have to click through the menu bar each time you transfer a file to the nokia device - on a mac there is a default keyboard shortcut for sending a file via bluetooth: SHIFT+CMD+B
--- now, as to why there will never be a Mac Suite
1. they did it once, but were ASKED TO STOP by apple. irrelevant, but you should know they aren't just lazy, they were told to abort the project.
2. PC Suite is required on a PC because simple tasks are impossible or too difficult without it - only a few functions of PC Suite aren't easily reproduced on a mac already
3. these few functions include Software Update, Lifeblog, Backup
a) Software Update: this is moving 'to the cloud' new devices will be updated without any computer
b) Lifeblog: yeah, i wish i had this on my mac. is it important? no, not really, just kinda neat.
c) Backup: you can backup to your SD card already. is it perfect? well, no. but that's an artifact of the backup and restore process, not the location where the backups are stored. so it's not perfect in PC Suite either. i'm not personally interested in backing up the full device to my mac. syncing my contacts and calendar, yes. backing up the device to my sd card, yes. and all that already occurs.
so, after my long winded post, i hope you're able to install apps easily and that you don't care at all that there is no Mac Suite application.

Bitflung (and others!)
You are a star. I knew that I couldn't use PC Suite and have been banging my head against the wall & researching for the PC Suite replacement. Should have come on this forum and saved myself the $30 I recently paid for The Missing Sync for Mac. It's buggy and doesn't do what it says on the box!!!
The additional info in your long winded post will definitely be put to good use!
Thanks again!

there are aways at least two ways to solve one task ;-)
just few months now the only place you could download iSync was apple's site
Now days there are already 3 of MAC applications ( whithout those on Betalabs) accessible directly via europe.nokia.com..
what make you think that these and newly coming applications as will not be gathered in Suite (MacSuite)
it is just a vision of mine , not forecast
;-))
