I have a problem with Content Copier backups from my E71 to my PC.

1) I choose to backup everything.
2) Backup proceeds, but says there was an error: on viewing logs there is nothing listed under "These items could not be backed up" heading. Backup log says contacts, messages, calender have all been backed up.
3) On finishing backup my E71 is sometimes left with a semi-blank Home screen, and hung. Have to remove battery to get it working again.
4) On trying to restore this backup, contacts, messages, notes, calendar aren't listed as being included in the backup.

Installing the trial version of Noki shows that the backups DO indeed contain contact details. But presumably there's something in the backup file that makes Content Copier think that contact details aren't in fact there, or that they're corrupted.

Following information from another thread about the phone hanging after a backup, I've tried again. This time I've asked to back up everything apart from "Settings".

This time the backup completes without error, and the phone doesn't hang. Even better, all the contents of the backup are available for restoring

Maybe some of installed application causes that problem. What applications you have installed in phone?

I don't think it's the phone.

I've now tested using Content Copier to do backups on my laptop. This still had PC Suite 7.0.9.2 on it, and the backup completed without error, including "Settings" to backup phone-specific settings. I then upgraded PC Suite to 7.1.18.0 and now the backup fails if I have "Settings" selected.

I've also tried completely uninstalling PC Suite and reinstalling 7.1.18.0 but I still get failed backups.

PC Suite 7.0.9.2: backup works correctly, including "Settings"
PC Suite 7.1.18.0: backup fails if "Settings" are selected to be backed up

I've opened the backup files in Write, and both failed and completed backups contain Contacts data in VCARD format (which is presumably why Noki could see contact data), but the completed backups also have another 18Mbytes of binary data that are missing from the failed backup files (presumably the phone-specific settings stuff).

It would be nice if Content Copier could allow me to extract the Contacts and Calendar data from a failed backup: the data is in there!

I've been communicating all this with Nokia Europe Support, so hopefully this will be fixed soon.

Anyway, some more progress. The Nokia Contact Transfer tool is able to extract the saved Contacts data from any of the unfinished backup files, and copy them to the phone. It merely adds them to the existing database, so once you're happy that it's working you need to delete all contacts on the phone before transferring them from backup.

Would be _really_ nice if Content Copier could do the same, instead of saying that the data isn't in the file.

Still no way to restore messages, notes, and calendar entries, even though they're there in the unfinished backup file.

Does anyone known of a copy of PC Suite 7.0.9.2 they could point me to? I can't find old versions on the Nokia site. If I could re-install that on my laptop I'd be able to back up my phone again...

I've worked around the problem, by downgrading from PC Suite 7.1.18.0 back to the working 7.0.9.2 as follows:

1) Copy old backup files somewhere safe.
2) Use Nokia PC Suite Cleaner to _completely_ remove all Nokia PC Suite software (a simple uninstall isn't enough).
3) Re-install 7.0.9.2.

I can now perform complete backups again, although I don't have the new features of PC Suite 7.1.

Have informed Nokia Support, so hopefully they can issue a fix soon.

I've tried doing the same thing, since I'm also experiencing this problem as well.

I've been trying to back up my phone's memory- the messages most especially- of my Nokia 6600 slide phone and restore it to the N73 phone. But I have had no luck- just the calendar entries and the notes were a success, the messages keep getting an error whenever I try to back them up.

I've tried the PC Suite version that was mentioned earlier in the thread and I've tried the method that was also mentioned above, and I still have no luck. I've also tried installing other versions of the Nokia PC Suite.. from the 7 then to 6th version, and still..no luck

Can anybody please help me?

The current version of Nokia PC suite (7.1.30.9) now works fine with my E71, and everything is backed up as it should be.

Fonart, I also have the same version as yours, but the problem is. An error keeps occuring whenever the Messages would be backup-ed.

I don't really care about the Inbox and the Drafts and the Sent items.. I just want my Saved Messages to be imported to my n73 from my 6600 slide It's not that unrealistic..

I've got the same issue on my N97 (V11) and the latest version of PCS.

It tries to back-up but usually hangs (especially when you've selected settings), and it's a hell of a problem to end the process.

When it apparently does work, I can now NOT restore my details. My messages get to 33% and then it hangs. It ran all last night and didn't budge past 33%. I rebooted this morning and it stills doesn't progress past this magic number.

As I reformatted the phone (due to another niggle) I've completely lost years of contact details (I'd synced from my old N95 - now off to the developing world with Mazuma). Grrrrr!  Hope the trick you posted earlier will work. Funnily enough I have the older version of PCS io my work PC (we have to pass through dungeon and fire to get updates) so I wish I'd seen your note yesterday and tried it at work as well as at home.....!

I'm having the same problem, but I'm using the same version of suite (7.1.30.9)

I was having issues with my N96, so I first back up all the data (except Mass memory), I did a full reset of the phone.

When I came to restore the data using Suite backup, the suite showed that the job is completed, but nothing was actually restored, it was still in the factory reset settings, no settings, no contacts, no calendar or messages.

I'm also notice sync won't work either. I'm sure t is the phone, as I tested the issue with 2 PCs running different windows.

I just used Nokia Contact transfer utility, so my contact are now restored but I still lost everything else.

I am having the same problem. I backed up my Nokia N96 using the latest version of PC suite before my phone was taken to Nokia for repair due to a software problem. I selected to back up everything apart from my memory card

I have my phone back now and restored all contacts, photos etc but my calendar entries have not been restored.

I do not have another phone to back the calendar up to and need all of these calendar entries for my business to run. Can someone please help me restore them??

Hopefully atleast in next release of Nokia PC Suite this needs to be addressed, BTW, you can wait for a while still Nokia OVI Suite 2.0 gets graduated from Betalabs, because atleast in Nokia OVI Suite 2.0 restoration takes place without any problem.  If you ready to take risk with your data, you can install Nokia OVI Suite 2.0 (which is still in BETA) and try to restore your calendar entries.
