Hello,
I made the mistake of exporting my phone's contact list to CSV format, editing the list in Excel, and then erasing the list in PC Suite before attempting to reload the modified list... This never worked.
I thought I was safe because I had saved the initial CSV file. This does not work either. Nokia PC Suite is not able to read its own file back :-(
About 150 contacts were lost. (At least on the phone side, on the PC side, I can edit the file in Excel very nicely)
I've read all posts above in this thread, but I'm sorry to say that none of the solutions proposed work.
I'm using the latest English version of Nokia PC Suite. So this is not a problem with localized versions.
I've tried recreating a single contact in my phone, and exporting it to a csv file.
I confirm that the file format is UTF 16.
But PC Suite is not able to read this single contact back from this csv file.
I've tried changing the field headers, or reducing the number of fieds to only a few basic ones, or not having header at all, or using semi-colons instead of commas.
Nothing works.
So I've send a support request to Nokia in hope that they can fix future versions of PC Suite.

Contrary to what I wrote in the previous post, the "support request" I posted was actually on a feedback page, and I'm beginning to wonder if my feedback was sent at all: There was no acknowledgement at all, and my browser page is back on an empty feedback form.
Does anybody know how to file a support request to real Nokia people?
(Instead of a question to fellow users on this forum like you and me)

Hello, I'm french and I have a very simple solution.
In fact, open the csv file with notepad and modify the title (first line) like this :
"Title";"First name";"Middle name";"Last name";"Suffix";"Job title";"Company";"Birthday";"SIP address";"Push-to-talk";"Share view";"User ID";"Notes";"General mobile";"General phone";"General e-mail";"General fax";"General video call";"General web address";"General VOIP address";"General P.O.Box";"General extension";"General street";"General postal/ZIP code";"General city";"General state/province";"General country/region";"Home mobile";"Home phone";"Home e-mail";"Home fax";"Home video call";"Home web address";"Home VOIP address";"Home P.O.Box";"Home extension";"Home street";"Home postal/ZIP code";"Home city";"Home state/province";"Home country/region";"Business mobile";"Business phone";"Business e-mail";"Business fax";"Business video call";"Business web address";"Business VOIP address";"Business P.O.Box";"Business extension";"Business street";"Business postal/ZIP code";"Business city";"Business state/province";"Business country/region";""
It's the english title. Now you can import your csv file.

The import utility is extremely (!) picky and unforgiving. I think the easiest way to go about this is to export the contacts that are already in the phone and edit the exported file, then reimport it.
The main "gotcha" for importing from a csv file is that all fields (including NULL fields) must be enclosed in "" (quotes). If you are exporting a list from Excel or Access, you cannot force the export to add all the quotes that you need. Edit the csv file in Notepad and you'll see what I mean. You will have to find another way to get all the quotes in there.
I made an import file that will work by creating a table in Access that had ONLY the fields I needed and I made sure none of them had NULL values. I exported that table into a text file with comma separators and quotation marks around the fields and it worked when I imported it into the Nokia Communicator (make sure the first line of the csv file has the Nokia field names in it also surrounded by quotes and separated by commas).
There was a lot of trial and error to get this right. The Nokia import utility is far too rigid to not have any good documentation.
Good Luck...

Nokia PC Suite has some problems reading CSV files, as I found. Anyways, I found a solution on the net.
This is a little bit of an expansion of this post
Step 1. Get your contacts into a CSV file.
Step 2. Open your email editor's address book. (Ctrl+Shift+B in Outlook Express) and import the CSV into it. I used Outlook & Outlook Express both, worked fine. Haven't tried Thunderbird or any other s/w.
Step 3. Synchronize directly, using PC Suite, from Outlook to the phone. Voila!
Thanks Orama!

I loaded the csv file into Outlook Express (import csv fiile and map the fields) and the contacts were added to my 6650 when I synch with my laptop. It worked!!!

Hi all
I have same problem, after half day , i have found the way to resolve this problem :
1. Export MS Outlook Contact to CSV file
2. Import CSV file to Outlook Express
3. Open Address Book in Outlook Express
4. Select all, then COPY
5. Open Nokia Communication Centre ( contact ) in Nokia PC Suite and PASTE
That's 100% worrking well and don't think about file type of CSV

The csv file can be written in different ways. Some versions can be imported by PC Suite other versions don't.
However it is simple to create a version, which your PC Suite can import without errors. There ist a script named "saveCSV" (GOOGLE), which converts the xls file to csv.
Attention: There are different versions of this script, just try out which one fits best.
I needed the version, which creates a file like this:
"first name";"last name";"general mobile"; ...
"Peter";"Miller";"12345678"; ...
The quotation marks were absolutely necessary, otherwise the import would not work (German version of PC Suite).
You can edit Your EXCEL sheet as usual. Then siply create this CSV file and import Your data.
Good luck, Lutz

Here's a method which i copied from another forum, on how to load your contacts EASILY. I managed to load hundreds of contacts to my N8 in 5 minutes.
1) Transfer your VCF file to your PC in my case from now happily shelved SE
2) Connect to your Device and go to memory\Others\
2) create a folder called contacts and move your vcf file there
3) disconnect usb cable
4) goto contacts, options, copy from mass memory
5) done.
