OKAY - Problem solved. I suspect the following also to work with other update issues regarding PC Suite, Connectivity, Vista, and XP SP3. Be aware that this is a risky procedure!
1) Deinstall everything related to Nokia in the Software Control Panel.
2) Set a recovery point with the Windows Recovery System. So you can be sure you are safe if you make mistakes in the following. Backup your harddrive if this is not enough security for you.
3) Run RegEdit and delete everything related to "Nokia", "PC Connectivity", and "PC Suite". Some entries will refuse to be delete. Override this in the 2nd's menu in the Access Settings by selecting the appropriate user you are logged in under and checkmarking full access. Make sure, you delete not only single keys but the also the corresponding folder after CAREFULLLY judging, if the folder is only Nokia related: some folders also include keys of other drivers/setting/programs/...
4) Your computer should be Nokia-clean now. Close RegEdit and restart.
5) Check the hardware and software control panels if everythings gone. Run a registry cleaner like Tweak Power.
6) Reinstall the latest Nokia software. Here, everything is fine now.
!!!! ALL THIS IS AT YOUR OWN RISK !!!!
