Nokia 6600 fold endless problems

firstly, the 6600 fold was not listed in the supported products the only fold phone listed was a 6650 fold... why is this?

secondly since i have had this phone (which is a company phone and therefore absolutely essential for me to do my job) the myriad of problems has been a little overwhelming. the current software is dated at 2 years ago and as far as i can tell there are no new updates for it and yes i have been on the nokia sites etc. It tends to crash locking out the numerical keys 15-20 times a day the only way round is to switch of then on again, 5-10 times a day the main screen stops displaying anything even though the keys and menus etc seem to still be working again the only way round is to switch off, switch on. 5-10 times a day it switches itself off when i close the fold without beeping, vibrating or otherwise informing me it has done so. 2 days ago the problems became much worse. the display hangs randomly, sometimes when i switch off, the vibrate unit goes into overdrive until i take the battery out, sometimes when i switch on all i get is a flashing black and white screen. I have restored factory settings etc tried everything I could. maybe this particular phone is faulty but i NEED it for work everyday 7 days a week so sending it for repair is problematic. I remember having problems with old sim cards + nu phones sometimes its not possible to get a particular phone to talk to an old sim card but this sim is under 4 years old from o2. If anyone else on this site has similar problems and/or solutions I would be gratefull to hear you out.

PS

When the 3210 was the latest phone around Nokia had their technology sorted, all i want my phone to do is be a phone + mp3 player is nice and maybe photos but not high quality i've got a camera for that. the 6300 that this phone replaced seemed to work okay just we kept cracking the screens in our demanding physical work so i thought I know i'll get a fold phone so the screen is protected...

worst mistake i made these last 2 years, should have got a phone from anyone else but Nokia.

I'm sorry if i sound angry or cause any offence that is not my intent but unless i get some support for this soon I will boycott Nokia 4ever and make sure my company+mates+anyone else i can influence does the same

Re: Nokia 6600 fold endless problems

OK, I just managed to install the updated firmware for my Nokia 6600 Fold and... everything seems to be working perfectly now... I will not yet eat my previous frustrated words until I am certain that all problems are resolved but for now I'd just like to say thankyou Nokia for finally updating the defunct firmware on your 6600 fold it was causing me no end of problems, now i can carry on with the 50+ phone calls i needed to make this afternoon.

P.S.

I always went for nokia because their menu systems and shortcut keys were intuitive and easy to get used to, I was worried of late that these reasons were now obsolete in regard to malfunctioning firmware etc.. but I stand corrected and happy in the knowledge that I have the right phone for me. Thanks again, Sam.

Re: Nokia 6600 fold endless problems

Hi Sam, glad to hear you got a fix. Do you remember which version firmware you had before and after the update?

We're onto our second 6600 Fold and keep having problems with ringtones on calls and messages being cut short, some calls going straight to voicemail and occasional shutdowns. The local Nokia service centre couldn't work it out with the first one.

Thanks, Mike.

Re: Nokia 6600 fold endless problems

My 6600 fold (with firmware v06.18) hangs frequently, especially when entering text or navigating menus.

Has anyone found a solution?

Re: Nokia 6600 fold endless problems

We gave up after the 3rd 6600 and swapped to an E71 - excellent phone, no problems.

Sorry not very helpful!

Been havin the same problems for four months!! Just got the phone back from Nokia Care for the 3rd time and it's still the same buggy ****. The phone got replaced once and have been fixed at Nokia Care twice after that and they still can't fix the damn thing. I bought it 4 months ago and it's still not working.I guess I have to ask they are willing to replace it with some other model on same price category or go to some other vendor and see if they have a phone for text messaging.

6600 fold is a complete waste of money.

Re: Nokia 6600 fold endless problems

I only have one problem when I look for an address at maps the phone freezes and I have to shut it off. I looked for updates for the firmware and there is one available but I can´t update it, says something about the cable and I don´t have problems with it transferring files with the PC.

Re: Nokia 6600 fold endless problems

Hey, I just recently bought this phone & are using latest firmware 6.20 & I am having same problem with key lockup on the 5 key. unitl I change 2 settings on ph. Now I don't know if it's a coincidence or not but so far it has stopped doing it.

I changed phone answer setting to accept call when phone opened instead of button push.

I changed bottom left hand shortcut from "Go to" to "new msg"

since I have done this issue has stopped for me. Don't know which setting fixed it for me so far but don't want to change back to test just in case it goes back to do what it was doing.

I used to get lock up 2-3 time a day, so far 2 days without it.

who knows.

cheers

Re: Nokia 6600 fold endless problems

Just reporting back, issue is still there but reduced considerably, when key 5 locks I can't backspace so have to type a couple more letters, then I am able to backspace to correct the jkl5 to what i intended to enter. Also issue depends on how fast u use that key too. least I don't have to turn off ph to fix now. This issue really feels like a firmware prob, I hope it's fixed soon.

Re: Nokia 6600 fold endless problems

Hi. I purchased the Nokia 6600 Fold in February 2010 based on Nokia quality reputation. I've never paid this much for a phone before but was going abroad so decided to invest in decent phone. However, just before the 12 months guarantee ran out, phone started freezing when using 5 or 6 key during texting. I searched for new firmware and flashed the phone and it was better, although still freezing periodically. Since it has got progressively worse, freezing about 5 or 6 times a day. Only way to recover it back is to switch on and off. VERY frustrating, feel like throwing the phone over a cliff!! Was going to try and get it fixed when I got back to UK, however, yesterday, after freezing again when I switched it off it refused to switch back on. Now it is completely dead. Cannot even connect to the pc to try and restore. So I have a completely useless but nice looking phone which cost me over £230 and I've had it less than 18 months. Even though it started going wrong within 12 months (me regret was not sending it back to Nokia then) I persevered but now I will NEVER buy another Nokia phone again, after this experience.

Please advise if I can recover this brick. Thanks

Re: Nokia 6600 fold endless problems

As a new member, Hi All

I hate to open an old can of worms but reading the history of the endless problems people have had with the 6600 fold, I wondered if there has ever been a happy outcome.

I realise the 6600 fold is now an old phone, but I have been using Nokia since the original 101 and like their products, this one really suits my needs.

However I have the intermittent crash that I read about so much on this forum. The double tap cover display fails, the electro magnetic fold realise fails and the numeric keys fail, plus various other features die. I have done all the usual home remedies using the Nokia suite like reinstalling software etc, checked battery voltage and so on to no avail. The only answer is to power off and on again or sometimes remove the battery.

I have taken it to two different Nokia care centres (LOL) nether were able to identify the fault (one down in Cornwall charged me £25 to tell me they could not find the problem).

Can anybody put me out of my misery please, as you can see I really like this phone and want to keep it going

Thank you

Dave
