Nokia 6300 opening back cover

Hi. One of my friends has just purchased a new Nokia 6300, and I've been trying to set it up for him. However, I am struggling at the first hurdle - I can't open the back cover. I have looked at the instruction manual and main website demo which shows pushing down around the 2 megapixel print on the cover and pushing down. This does not work.

I have also searched on Internet search engines which has turned up two other methods of opening the back, neither of which work.

The first was to press in further down the back cover at either side.

The second was to hold it in one hand and use the palm of the other hand to press it down and away from you.

Please can someone help me as to how to open the back cover of this phone

Re: Nokia 6300 opening back cover

The first couple of times you open the batterycover it sticks real hard, but if you lay the palm of your hand flat on the batterycover and pull down towards the bottom of the phone it should let go, it´s only about half of a inch. There´s two "springs", one on eather side that pushes on the inside of the batterycover and holds it, they hold it really hard but if you do as i told you they will release, dont worry about braking it because you wont, but remember only about half a inch.

Good Luck!

Re: Nokia 6300 opening back cover

HELLO all out there having trouble with the back cover on the 6300.
I am the mobile phone purchasing officer for a large company and lodged a complaint yesterday with Nokia to be told that I was the only one who had this problem. I registered last night to find I am not alone.

GREAT NEWS !! I have successfully removed the back cover this morning using the directions in the manual with a KITCHEN GLOVE ( one of the flocked lined gloves with the texture)

Next time you purchase a NOKIA 6300, remember to buy some kitchen gloves as well.

Best 2 pieces of advice ever: surgical glove and pressing the end of the cover with the bottom of the palm. Thanks guys!!!

Kitchen gloves works, anything else doesn't.

Re: Nokia 6300 opening back cover

I was nearly in tears over this - I finally got it open by sliding a credit card into almost imperceptible gap at the top of the case...

Well, it does get easier after you have removed and replaced the battery cover about 10 times or so. But it still takes more effort than most Nokias. The benefit is that the phone has a real solid feel.

My technique is just to grab the battery cover by either side and squeeze hard and pull down. It doesn't seem to move at all but if you look, there should be a barely perceptible very small gap at the seam between the cover and the camera part of the phone. A barely visible space that is just big enough to slide a finger nail in. Once you can get a finger nail in, it is easy to just do that and pull the cover 1/2 inch further down and then lift it off.

I really like the solid build on this phone, although I too initially had trouble getting the battery cover off.

Re: Nokia 6300 opening back cover

I also had problems with the cover. I accidently bent the cover getting it off the first time. It folded slightly down the middle longitudinally. So I bent it back. It's not so hard to get it off now but still very awkward. They should not have used a shiny metal material for the cover. The least they could have done was add say 3 or 4 small serrations on the cover so you can push the cover off with your thumb/finger and get a decent grip.

The N73 cover is so different and very easy to get off. Why don't Nokia learn the lessons from other phones? It's so annoying.

That's how it is, also with 6267. For Nokia: you should include a kitchen glove in the package... I'm serious!
