Nokia 5500 Advice

Hello,

I have been interested in the Nokia 5500 Sport phone for a while now but have not bought one up to now because of the fault of the keypad peeling off.

However, after reading this forum i saw that someone said that Nokia had sorted that problem and all the 5500's made after May this year were ok. (Think it was may.)

Anyway, im still interested in the phone as i need a rugged phone like my current 5140. If anyone could give me some advice as whether to steer clear of the 5500 or whether to buy it, and if not what other rugged phones(with bluetooth must have that) would you reccommend?

Regards,

Re: Nokia 5500 Advice

I think the 5500 sport is a great rugged device and even survived playing music in beer!

It's definately for someone who is worried to drop their phone alot and people who play alot of sport.

Firstly, Go to www.nokia.co.uk/repair and click the repair centre bit on the page.
Then phone up your local Service Centre and tell them if you buy the phone, will it be covered on the battery peeling issue because some people have had to pay £20+ even though it's got a 2 year warranty.

And tell them if they can fit a new keypad that will not come off if you get the phone.

The only two 'rugged' phones i can think of now are 5140 and the 5500 but the 5500 is clearly better.

Thanks for the quick response. I did not know of the battery peeling issue and will do as you say.

Is this phone available on pay as you go yet though?

Re: Nokia 5500 Advice

Ok one question.

Im comparing buying this phone direct from Nokia and the link that you gave me. My sense of common sense says to pay the extra and buy from Nokia, but will the 5500 Sport from Nokia be sim free? A silly question maybe but it doesnt actually say. I'd like to be able just to transfer my old sim card to this new phone (which is an orange sim card on pay as you go) is this going to be possible?

All phones bought direct from nokia are sim free (unlocked) and will work on any network.

This company is a very reliable supplier of phones, i've used them many times:

Re: Nokia 5500 Advice

Thank you for trying to save me money but i would rather buy from a credited reliable source that i know of and get the product i want even if it costs me more.

Though you say this company is reliable and is relatively local (ish) to where i live i just dont trust them when buying online.

Placed my order with Nokia.
