Hi, not sure if this I'm in the right place but it's worth a shot.
I purchased an unlocked Nokia 2680 handset in the UK this month to replace a broken handset for my pay-as-you-go O2 sim card. I was told by the representative that the phone was tri-band and would work in the United States, where I live presently. I am emailing from the US where the phone does not work. It does not roam with my UK network (o2), nor will my AT&T sim card work in the phone (sim card registration failed).
Any ideas? I thought an unlocked handset bought from an independent provider would work on any network??

I was misinformed; so, apparently, is everyone buying this phone from the carphone warehouse??

I can confirm a similar situation. I purchased my 2680s from nokiausa.com for delivery to the US just prior to arriving in London. When I arrived in London, I popped into an Orange shop and installed a pay-as-you-go sim card. The phone will not acquire a signal from any local UK carrier. The Orange representatives were at a loss as to how to resolve the problem. So even though the technical specifications on nokiausa.com state "UPP8 v.6, Dual-band variants: EGSM 900/1800 (EU) and GSM 850/1900 (US) – EDGE only" I suppose I did not realize that they would be locked to the band in the country of purchase. $100USD wasted.
