Locking up 6555b

I have the USA AT&T version of the 6555b and bought it to replace a lost Nokia 6102i. I loved the 6102i, always enjoyed Nokia phones for their durability and stability.

This phone is a major disappointment. I don't understand the bad battery life but suspect that it has something to do with the 3G. I have owned a dozen phones over the past ten years and this is the only one where a charger at home, in my car, and in my office is a total necessity for making it through the day with only one to two hours of talk time.
This is my first G3 phone, though I don't use any of the features for G3.

I spent time trying to turn off needless power settings and set connectivity to "as needed" instead of "always on" but none of this really made a noticable difference unless I just let the phone sit idle and didn't use it.

I do use the music feature with a 2Mb micro SD card and either AT&T tunes or Napster but charge it while listing to music. This brings a second issue. The music player often locks up when listening to one song and pressing "forward" to the next song. Exiting the music player in this state causes incoming calls to be sent to voicemail and the music player will not load again. I have to completely turn off and on the phone. I've had this happen several times a day.

I looked for firmware updates, mine is v 03.43 from November of 2007 and the Nokia updater says that I have no available firmware updates.

I searched the web for any other thoughts but found nothing. It seems that there are 6555b firmware updates but not for my USA - AT&T model. I tried everything that I could find before posting here.

I then got AT&T to replace the entire phone and the replacement has the same issues.

Help, anybody, Please? I don't want to have to get rid of this phone!

Re: Locking up 6555b

I'm not surprised that there is no reply to this because a bad phone is a bad phone, PERIOD! I just wish that Nokia would admit to it -- even the best of companies have dud projects once in a while and it's no reflection on them but it does nothing for customer good will to hide from it. I've read all over the web and TOO many people are having the same problems. C-Net.com in the USA even downgraded their previously good rating for this phone because the battery life is unacceptable.

Give us a break, Nokia, please! I like you guys but this is not funny! I have to keep this phone close to a charger most of the time. I would be totally happy with this phone if it got comparativly good battery life and the MP3 player didn't randomly lock up when going from one song to another -- this using approved music from Napster as the 6555 is Napster certified. I've tried everything posted to lenghten battery life. I tried a new battery but there is nothing wrong with the battery. This phone simply sucks it dry or the battery is too small for the application.

So, I'm either going to ride it out until upgrade time or try to find a used Nokia 6102i for the AT&T network, which is a decent phone and the one that I had before I got stuck with this thing.
