I hate Nokia Software!

Over that past ten or so years, I have grown to HATE Nokia software. I am an experienced cyber-all-rounder but in my experience, the Nokia software is fraught with problems and very poor design. The purpose of this post is to suggest to Nokia that they create some mechanism, that a user can find AND use effectively, to address user's issues. And no, the answer is NOT to simply fob us off with a directive to search the myriad of posts here.

I would list some of the issues I have had but:

a) that would take more space than is available on the Nokia servers and

b) there's no point in me getting my blood pressure up any more than it already is.

So, will the powers at Nokia do anything intelligent?

Re: I hate Nokia Software!

Why would you waste your time an energy with such instead of just buying a phone from another brand??

If your Hate for nokia has been growing over ten years it's your own fault that you carried on buying Nokia phones.

That very same Nokia software you're talking about is so terrible that other leading manufacturers like Samsung and Sony Ericson still use it on some of their phones (I wish there was a :smileysarcastic: for this one)

Show your appreciation. Hit that kudos button real hard

Nokia Support Discussions is a peer-to-peer troubleshooting and support forum, if you wish to make your feelings known to Nokia directly, you should do so directly via your local Nokia Care line.

Re: I hate Nokia Software!

Wow- 10 years is a long time to discover you hate Nokia software. Certainly points out that you must love Nokia for many other reasons otherwise; you would not have had that patience for so long. I can see where you are coming from regarding the confusing links etc. when it comes to searching on the web. Just go to the official Nokia website for anything, don't waste time looking elsewhere. Also when you buy a Nokia, make sure you buy from a reputable Nokia representative otherwise, you can be sure to inherit some Nokia that has either been repaired or used before. Usually when people have a problem with a phone, it is not the phone that is the problem but the user awareness of how to make the most of the phone and basically KNOW the phones capabilities, HA ,alas what the fine manual is for really.  If you stated exactly what the issues are then you could have had an immediate response.

@ Kay-Cee

You are quite correct of course and I apologise for venting my feelings here. But could you perhaps provide me with an email contact? I have tried many times to contact Nokia directly ....

In reply to some other responses, all I really want is a reliable phone so I generally take the line of least resistance. There's nothing wrong with the Nokia hardware - it's quite fabulous - I have had at least 10 Nokia phones over the years and currently own three. In my experience, the software is another matter entirely.

My own experience in the software game began in 1975 on a UNIVAC 90/30 where I learnt COBOL amongst other things. I have remained in the IT game over the decades and have been exposed to a myriad of operating systems and programming environments - some good and some bad. Some I've had to live with and some I could discard in favour of an alternative. I'm pretty much up to speed with a lot of the latest apps and I can intuitively find my way around most packages, including the more esoteric stuff like CAD (various) and Photoshop. And I can chuck a pretty good website up in just a few hours.

So, when I wasted about six hours unsuccessfully trying to get a map downloaded for my 6110 navigator (I am presently in Thailand), I had once again, had enough. Anyone want to buy a 6110 in immaculate condition?

Re: I hate Nokia Software!

The contact details for Nokia Care are available using the "Contact us" tab to the top right of this screen.

I don't have problems downloading maps to any of my current 3 Nokia. The problem if there is going to be one is usually with getting pcsuite ana Map Loader to install properly on the pc, but that is more often a problem with the Windows installation on the pc. Once you have them installed properly, I think your problems may be due to a poor internet connection.

Re: I hate Nokia Software!

@cjlim

I've been there before but I had another go. The "Contact Us" tab takes me round in great annoying circles. FirstI have to choose my phone. Okay I suppose. Then I get offered a myriad of alternatives to actually making any contact. Then, I have to select my region. Okay, I select Thailand, a form appears in Thai which is reasonable. There is an "English" button which I press. I am then returned to where I first started. So I have another go. This time it has a different outcome - see an image of the error attached.

Nope, it won't let me attach anything to this post .... charming.

The error was  "The server sent a Bad request".

Re: I hate Nokia Software!

Sounds like you might need to convince someone who reads Thai to give you a hand. Reminds me of the time I was trying to buy a train ticket from a machine in Germany, even though you can select English.

YEP, I agree!  They are not helpful at all... I am new to the 6350, but, just disapointing that I cannot edit the software on the phone to make ringtones louder... Guess I will go back to Moto's... I can at least SEEM edit them!!!  Poor customer support = NOKIA!!!

Re: I hate Nokia Software!

To Kay_Cee:

These are not my "feelings" only!

Are thousands of many others "feelings" too. Instead of removing posts that are not convening to you, you should respect your costumers who payed good money on your devices, which by the way pays your salary, and make them (phones) usable. Why don't you try an E52 and then think about your politics.

I might be wrong, but I bet you don't even own a Nokia. A new generation one. They're all the same when it comes to functionality.

And for your knowledge, you should know that not only I have complained to local Nokia Care line, who hang up my phone, but even went with the phone to repair it( as they-you, say). And guess what? After two and a half weeks of "BIG" repairs I got my phone back exactly as it was! NOT WORKING. How about it?

Kind Regarrrrrds also

They've removed my post guys. How about this communist attitude? They don't like something you say, they are removing your post.

Nokia, you'd better start build working phones and you won't be forced to remove posts of paying customers.

Or else? GO TO NORTH COREEA! This is where your attitude will be welcomed.

Re: I hate Nokia Software!

There is no reason to be picking on Kay_cee who is only a moderator here and as you rightly said probably does not know much about the phones. At the end of the day, this is still a user to user forum. It is unfortunate that you have a problem with your phone but the majority of Nokia and even E52 owners are not experiencing the problems you are. Nokia sells millions of handsets every year and if there was a problem with all of them, believe you me, there would be mayhem.

I have only ever seen posts removed because they are in contravention of forum rules and contain innappropriate language etc. Next time try complaining or criticising Nokia in a nice polite and constructive manner and you will find that none of your posts will be removed. ou can continue to say what you want but using the correct language. It is not what you say but rather how you say it.

Anyway, if you wish to contact Nokia directly, you should use the "Contact us " tab to the top right of this screen.

Re: I hate Nokia Software!

Try complaining or criticising Nokia in a nice polite and constructive manner?

You mean exactly the "manner" they take our, your money? And giving us instead what? Pieces of plastic, iron, and silicon all together assambled in a nice form and thats it?

How do you know how many satisfied customers are? Have you got a clear statistic? How many of them use the phone at its entire power? How many of them pays good money on a expensive, therefore complicated phone, and don't know how to use it? Saying probably "well I don't know how to make this phone work" , but the phone is defective. Still Nokia cashes the dow. On a correct basis?

Re: I hate Nokia Software!

I see your point. But at the end of the day, you have to play the game to get your way. You may have a gripe with Nokia but lets not forget that Nokia employees are people too. The basic rule is to treat people like you would like to be treated. If you walk in with all guns blazing, the person behind the counter is likely to slam the door in your face. However if you cultivate a bit of a rapport with them then they are likely to bend over backwards for you. Once you get what you want, then start shooting.

Re: I hate Nokia Software!

Look. I don't want to have argues with anybody. It is not me. I am just frustrated, and for good reasons as far as I'm concerned.

I have spent, believe me, thousands of euros on only Nokia phones. I'm (still !) a Nokia fan. I love them (love&hate). Not for what they are "offering" lately, but for, at least their theoreticaly phone functions.

I have been through 6230, 6230i, 6233, N73, E51, N95 8GB, N96, 5800 XM, N97 and now E52.

All of them had/have great features and none of them worked 100%. My money did.

As a common sense rule, time over a paramount company as Nokia should improve things. Directioning them for the better.

I hoped. But it is for the worst unfortunately.

Nokia will fall someday soon should they keep that incompetent attitude.

What 'm I to think when a device from the new generation (E52) does not have the moast elementary function of a mobile phone working. IT IS LOOSING SIGNAL! The antenna, the software, i don't know what is bad. People I'm having a conversation with are telling me they cannot hear what I say. This is shamefull. I'm not the only one with that problem. I know at least 15 guys in my neibourhood in this situation. Think how many are they in the world elsewere.

Is this acceptable after 300 Euros spent on the phone? After 2,5 weeks of reparing the phone (elegedly). After lots of mails send to nokia without answer? After the much expected solving (not!) firmware?

What would you do? Remain calm? "Cultivate a bit of a rapport" with them?

Re: I hate Nokia Software!

Complaining here is not going to get you anywhere with Nokia. You will probably not even get a reply. If you see so strongly about it then you should contact your solicitor to see what legal recourse you have available to you. Giving Nokia employees a hard time will only get doors slamed in your face. Do you ever watch the documentary Airline? The more stick you give the Easyjet staff, the less inclined they will be to help you, even if you are 100% right.

i agree with John

Nokia doesn't care user problems. so we are used to use chinese phones, simple, T!T for TAT

@ Moderator! Nokia should watch the forum and solve the user problems which can't covered by customer care. Nokia's customer care in india is worst.

Re: I hate Nokia Software!

I love nokia and just purchased N79 a good toy. but within 3 months i found problems handling the device. I went to NOKIA Care and i found the guys sitting over there are only to format the phone not to troubleshoot(You can have any problem and they have only one solution format or upgrade the software). Why nokia didn't engage good guys over there so they can understand technical problems too.

Being a Software Professional i know that i will not format my system all the time to correct a problem.

I went  NOKIA Care and told him that i am unable to install java applications and discussed some other menu specific problems too, the person replied OK we will format your phone and the things will be ok, i asked about data and applications-the answer was yeh you will lost them, we can't do anything in this matter. One funny answer was "Your Memory card does not support Java". WOOOOOOOOOWWW amazing, I am a software Developer too and also in traning. Just think, what i will be thinking at that time.

So i dont know how to express my feelings, nokia phones are good but the services are too bad. Finally i format my phone myself as i can not even see how they people handle my phone (throwing here n there). After format i lost some of my applications.

Now the point is when we have paid for a device and the device is having a problem and is repaired why should not we get our applications back. As i understand that the applications are IMEI based so those must be retrieved back.

Well finally phone is good but NOKIA should think upon its Customer Service too.

Re: I hate Nokia Software!

i cant believe he got 2 kudos for this post!

there is 1 definate, complete observation to his post, as he could have been using any kind of handset other then just nokias over the last 10 years....this is because NOKIA DOES NOT MAKE SOFTWARE!

lmao....they are a handset manufacturer...symbian has been making the software, which is based in Northern California, USA, and Nokia is based where.....in Finland!

omg...i hope i get at least 2 kudos for that enlighenment!  :smileysurprised:

Kudos are to the Above to the LEFT, Solution is Below to the RIGHT
