Hi all... got a problem with a 6700C. Wont start, gets to the Handshake screen and stops there. I can see the phone and read the memory card via the data lead, and the ovi suite sees the phone but wont connect to it as i cannot get it into ovi mode... i think its needing the firmware re-flashed but i cant get it to do it - any ideas?

Does the phone work without a memory and sim card inserted?

If not then unfortunately your firmware has been corrupted. Only a nokia care point can recover it from that state.

Out of curiosity before it died did it have 1000's of SMS messages stored on it?

Hi Psycho - sorry dude I have no idea. I have a 5800, but this belongs to a friend. I was thinking that may be the case, but was hoping there was some way of re-flashing the f/w without actually sending the phone off. Im guessing as default the phone was saving all of its SMS to the phone memory and possibly ran out of memory... is that what your getting at?

Sorry and no - its the same with no SIM and MEMORY CARD.

Hi Kev, Sorry to say but there's no way to flash it (or do anything) yourself from this state. Series 40 phones are more limited and require the specialist equipment that care points and some independent phone shops have.

The reason I asked about messages is that some series 40 phones have a really bad habit of locking themselves up like this once they have a few 1000 messages on them if if there's plenty of space left.

Thought that was the case, bit **bleep** though isnt it... I think its under warentee with Orange so they can have it back. Would you say this is a Known fault then? Google seems to think so.

I would say it's been a known fault with some series 40 phones for at least three years.

I've had it happen to me when I lent a mate my old 6233. It started playing up when it got over 2000 messages then died completely when attempting to delete them.
