6700 Classic GPS data logging

Bearing in mind it's an S40 phone, has anybody been able to export the GPS data from a 6700 Classic? I'm still unsure as to whether or not to buy one (well, free with a contract) and would like to ensure that there's the possibility of using the phone to log my bike rides. I'm growing to like the idea of a phone with GPS as I'll be carrying a phone whilst cycling - I'm not too worried about the basic maps/navigation element of GPS as I might be off-road and I use OS maps (or just love getting lost!), I'm more interested in the ability of it to record my route (with speed & altitude).

Hi trgxbaby

I just wonder whether you could run Sportypal if you download the Java application: http://www.sportypal.com/Download

Although your 6700 is not listed specifically, I suppose it depends upon whether application can communicate with internal GPS or is expecting the more usual use of an external Bluetooth GPS receiver.

Happy to have helped the forum in a small way from 2007-10

Re: 6700 Classic GPS data logging

Thanks for that link - just downloaded it.

To be honest I'm seeing so many negative reviews of the 6700 (cracked screens, resets, lockups) that I think I'm going to avoid it and I may look at a non-Nokia candybar phone or revert to my original choice of the 6303 which seems to get nothing but praise. I've got an external Bluetooth receiver already and as I've seen at least one person who's managed to get the data from a 6303 I'm happy with that one's ability.

Sportypal doesn't work. Getting really upset with the 6700 and not being able to record tracks :smileysad:

Re: 6700 Classic GPS data logging

I used 'sports tracker' on my previous phone (6220). Now have 6700 classic, not listed in compatible phones. So I tried 'Map My Tracks' from OVI. It is a Java Middlet that downloads into the 'games' area, not applications, so you don't seem to be able to add it to main menu like Sports Tracker.

Anyway it tries to run but crashes - out of memory error - which it does for almost all actions. Loadiing OTA. Tried from PC with a generic version - doesn't want to know. Forums say s40 not being supported. I double checked before getting the phone that it had GPS and maps. I am so annoyed!!

I am returning the phone as not fit for purpose.

Re: 6700 Classic GPS data logging

After seemingly getting nowhere with my old 6230i, I returned to the problem and managed to get eGPStrack working with my external BTGPS74R (Holox 321?). It seems to have nearly everything that other GPS logging software posses (even exports to KML and can utilise maps) and it's freeware (PayPal donation optional). I get the odd crash which is probably related to the minimal memory my 6230i has. I still may go full GPS witha Garmin cycle computer but this is worth a try.
